You may well be right, but I never noticed it myself. For me, how hard it feels depends on how well I'm hitting. If I hit cleanly and smoothly, I get no shock, so the string doesn't feel hard. Otherwise I can feel some shock, but I feel it's more the result of my own mistake than the fault of the string. To some extent I like having this feedback, as I think it helps me improve my timing.
Lol... at the crazy tensions that you're using BG80, you should really get your hands checked out if they're missing any nerve endings... But yes, ZM62 Fire is quite hard.
Hehe... also any mention of RKEP XP70, EX3 socks, and G10 grips would also perk my ears. They're my only few cheap pleasures in life...
Very true. At the beginning of the session when my footwork and stroke is still good and I'm hitting well in the sweetspot with good handspeed, I like the 62F. But as the session progresses and I get tired, I'm finding the 62 is more *forgiving.* But that's just because of me and my mediocre technique...
I want to try this string ;( But i cant find one in our area here in ph and i dont have paypal nor credit card to order from other countries. Any Filipino here who knows where I could get this string inside our country :O
These are some great feedback on this string and I excited to try it out! Can anyone recommend a tension for me? My favorite strings right now are VS-850 and Ultimax 66 (Generally, my decision is based on whether I want control -VS-850 or power - UM66). I typically string the VS-850 at 28 or 29 depending on the racket- slender frames I lower to 28 lbs and the beefier ones I go 29 lbs. I string the Ultimax no higher than 24 since I am concerned about durability. Although I broke my strings just once after playing for almost 2 years. But then again, I only play like 8 hours at the most a week and I seldom use the same racket consecutively (I have about 5 that I rotate in and out) so that may not mean much. My initial thoughts are to start at 26 lbs due to the thin gauge. Current favorite set up at the moment is SW35 (3U) at 29 lbs with VS-850 (But interestingly enough, 29 lbs with the same string on the BS10 can cause discomfort at the elbow). Appreciate any suggestions. I am thinking of putting this on my TK6000 in hopes of rekindling my romance with it. That or my PP Revelation which I haven't touched in a while.
Some miscellaneous notes on ZM62 Fire: 1) First, MarkA: Dink sent you 3 sets of orange ZM62 Fire. 2) All the new Fire string is significantly more durable than the last generation. 3) The after a few days of being strung, the Fire drops a bit of tension then holds very well. 4) The new Fire is more elastic, more repulsive than the last generation. 5) To get the optimum performance and feel, try stringing 1-2lbs. tighter than you normally would. For the first few days, the string will play tighter, then it will drop and be at your ideal tension. This Panda strung up 3 x Precision Pro v2s at 31lbs. and initially they played great. Fast forward a few days, they all dropped in tension and felt "spongy" relatively speaking... ...so the next day Dink Panda strung another v2 up at 33lbs. and yes, initially it's quite tight, lacking a bit in power but a few days later, the tension dropped a bit and now it's perfect. So, you may want to give that a go. About 8 people here tried it, going up 1-2lbs. in tension and letting it drop and they all agreed it was worth it. TLDR: 1) The new Fire string is more durable, more repulsive and better than the previous string it replaces. 2) String the Fire string at 1-2lbs. tighter than normal. It will drop in tension slightly after a few days and be ideal or close to it.
Dinkalot's comments are interesting. The Pandaman was generous enough to let this die-hard Z62 user try the new stuff. I did not find a big difference in tension loss at my meagre 23lb (prestretched very well). But maybe it's an issue at higher tension. The playability hasn't been much different from old Z62. So the only issue I have been waiting for is durability. As an infrequent, weak player it takes me forever to break a string. But it has now been long enough to finally detect the wear and fraying in the new Z62. It has lasted longer than my old Z62. Inwon't be throwing away my familiar old Z62 reels yet to replace with the new. But when the time comes I know there will be a similar (and perhaps superior ) product ready and waiting.
This lines up with my 66 and 69 experience: dumps loads of tension at first, then levels off and refuses to move any more. No way I'm overshooting at 32/33, though; a hand prestretch and a WISE prestretch will have to do.
Hmm, that seems to line up with my experience so far. Maybe I need to try some higher tensions and wait for it to drop.
I tend to leave mine for at least a day before use, so I'm far more interested in the post-24 hr and first/second session tension loss. That's why I liked VS-890 so much: dropped like a bag of spanners over the first day, then locked up.
Yep, 62F really maintains tension after settling after a few days. That and durability are the major improvements over 62. However, 62 is still better for a low tension non hard hitter like myself and Fidget for a few reasons. Durability is no concern because we don't break them anyways. And the most important part is the feel being less hard than 62F, the 62 is more forgiving of stroke timing and technique.
I'm wondering how high it's going to ping at 32/33 - the other ZF strings were disappointingly low and dull. I'll be surprised if it goes over 1400, to be honest. The new coating really puts me in mind of BG80P vs BG80: better durability and tension holding for the former, but brighter feel and sound for the latter.
Strung my racquet with Fire62 (c/o Duckfeet) @ 27lbs. Played yesterday with it (approx. 16hrs after stringing) and very impressed with it, playing again tonight, lets see how it lasts. First impressions are very good and really liked the way it plays, control, power, and touch. According to the reviews may have to go slightly tighter to keep the tension up!
I still don't feel my tension was pushed high enough using the Zymax 62 Fire. I'm gonna try 31lbs the next time. I suppose that would be ideal since I'm used to 28lbs and 29lbs using Yonex BG6. Will it snap faster, I don't think so.. I just can't seem to snap these 62 Fire strings at all. No sign of damage after nearly 2 months of play. There was the initial drop in tension like most of you say, and YES, it did hold the tension well after the initial drop. I'm guessing that I'll end up having 62 F on all my racket by the end of July.
First casualty I'm still on 2 months with no sign of wear on mine, but 62f@24 in a js10 I sold two weeks ago has broken. The owner plays 3 times a week and hits twice as hard as me so it was to be expected. I hoped for a little more from it though. Buying another reel for myself and not such big hitting customers.
If I can't break mine I will be most displeased, especially as I can bork some thicker strings (that's you, NS30) pretty much on command.
