Lee Hyun Il has not been part of the national team since he "retired" for a third time after the London Olympics. He is currently playing as an independent player with an Apacs sponsorship. He played for them at the Asian games last year as the BKA called him back and he accepted.

Lee Hyun Il no longer plays for the korean national team. He's with a Thai club called Granular at the moment. So no surprise that he wasn't selected, but he is actually ranked higher than Lee Dong Kuen so LHI would have made a pretty good choice for reserve.

No Kim Hyo Min? I like Chang Ye Na/Jung Kyung Eun, a new combo pairing. Hopefully they can steal one pt vs. CHINA no matter how unlikely that will be.

Which Korea's XD combo that can contend with CHN's ZN/ZYL?

    KO Sung Hyun/KIM Ha Na
    Shin Baek Choel/Jang Ye Na
Yoo Yeon Seong/Eom Hye Won? (She is not included too bad)
    Lee Yong Dae/Shin Seung Chan
    Lee Yong Dae/Lee So Hee
    Kim Ki Jung/Jung Kyung Eun

I thought he played last year at the Thomas Cup and his win against China's third single clinched the victory for Korea. Do I mix things up with Asian Games?

You mixed up Thomas Cup and Asian Games.
JAPAN Men team won the last Thomas Cup. They won against CHN in Semi and went on to beat MAS in the final.

LHI was the 3rd single that enabled the Korean team to win the Badminton team event in the last Asian Games vs. CHN.

    yes you are right

Yes you are right. In 2014, Korea, Malaysia, Germany and India were in the same group. Malaysia topped the group and Korea second in the group. Malaysia advanced all the way to the finals and lost to Japan in the finals. Malaysia beat Denmark in the quarter finals and Indonesia 3-0 in the semifinals. Unfortunately Korea only advanced to the quarterfinals and lose to Indonesia. I still remembered the results until now. This is because in the finals were Malaysia versus Japan but Japan won the Thomas cup for the first time. At that time the singles event are more important because there are 3 singles event and only 2 doubles event. Now for sudirman cup it is different, as there will be 3 doubles event and only 2 single events. So now for sudirman cup the doubles event is more important.

Wondering whether Eom Hye Won is really so out of shape for Sudirman Cup duty. Kim Ha Na was totally useless in the XD match.

Not exactly. At the Thomas Cup last year, there were two 3rd singles players. One was Hwang Jong Soo, who is the same age as Son Wan Ho and was thus the oldest singles player on the national team. The other was Park Sung Min, who didn't play. Park is the same age as Lee Dong Keun, meaning that he turned 24 last year. Neither is currently on the national team.
