As stated by george@chongwei in the LCW thread, LCW is expected to play in Canada & US Open for 1st time in his career. This is a great chance for Americans to see him play (and possibly the last chance, for those who don't get to travel to other tournaments to watch him play before he retires).

"But trust Frost to come up with a back-up plan to help Chong Wei improve his world ranking, which has plunged to 45th.
“We will now register him for the back-to-back US Open and Canada Open. He has never competed in these tournaments before ...,” said the Dane."

Vancouver? Toronto? Boo-hoo. Try getting there cheap from Nova Scotia! :(
(The All England is closer to here than the Canada Open).

But seriously, this is great news for Canadian and American fans. I think this is a great move by the former No.1. He has always been an ambassador of the game in the Big Places. Now he's taking the 'opportunity' to show the rest of us how the game is played.

(Meanwhile, Peter Gade is in Winnipeg right now for a demo at the U23 Canadian championship. Canada is coming of age!)

won't be surprised to see LCW play thrice as many tournaments as the others.

Don't think so Lin Dan will play:

    1) He is already in the top 10 world ranking. Is not fair for those who play in the Grand Prix.

    2) The Chinese won't let him play even though Yonex would want him to go.

BUT anything can happen. Just need a miracle.

Bobby Milroy must be really kicking himself now for letting the Canada Open go from Vancouver to Calgary this yr...
About the only food there that's better than Vancouver is their triple AAA aged rib eye steak... :D
Exert, we're counting on you to take pictures and videos to post here so that we can see him... :D

Lin Dan is currently ranked #2 in the world. He can continue to do well in Super Series & SSP to maintain the rank (he only needs to be seed 2 if Chen Long is 1 seed). And let's be real, if they need to, when he faces another Chinese player, they can just do a walkover so he can make it farther anyways.

From the main US Open organizers, I believe China will mostly be sending team 2 players.

Yeah, it's in Calgary for the next two years. You can always go and volunteer :) We don't really have any good places for the tournament. The Richmond Oval flooring is just too hard which is tough on the knees, previous players have complained about it.

Maybe a group of us could do a road trip to Calgary to try out their Prime Alberta beef in July :p

Not a bad move. Winning both will translate to 12,500 points. That's 500 points more than winning the World Championships.

What's story of Calgary? If not Vancouver, why not Toronto or Montreal where the badminton population is much bigger.
