I just saw that petition on FB. A fair number of people have signed. Just to make it absolutely clear, I have the greatest respect for both Boe and Mogensen on their badminton skills. For their complaints on coaching, intra-match disputes are there for the umpire or tournament referee to handle. But no person, from any country, should talk to an official with those post match comments and action.
There is no place in any sport for players to denigrate officials. He continued his harangue on the official along the walk back, and still included a parting remark. Very poor example for a world class competitor to set.
I think the best is to use the hawk eye camera, or even tennis matches camera/ soccer matches camera, to identify errors make by umpire and players!
At 36:40 to 37:50, a slow motion analysis of LYD's serve by GC and MF: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aeHsK_n7qO0
^ But that serve was instantly killed by CB. Even then, it's very interesting how he pushes the shuttle with an undercut, or is it a top spin?
After I shared the post, a few officials from Canada I know shared it as well. One of them dealt with their rudeness 1st hand. I'm quite disappointed by one of the comments left on the petition though as well as the comments on youtube saying "Improve the quality of umpires" "This player faulted and he just is not calling anything" etc. Unless you guys have been in that chair, it's totally different. I can't say too much on it, but anyone can look at a screen and yell "HEY THAT'S A PENALTY" or they slow-mo it down "that was totally a fault!". Unless you have ever been a technical official, don't try to make it sound like you know everything.
Absolutely agree. However, some people can't see the issues clearly - this can happens everywhere. You can't help some people being a bit thick on YouTube. Since that is an official BWF channel, BWF will have to take notice. Having the channel open to comments can be a two edged sword as you will get some personalities who like to troll.
They'll just say they're having a post match discussion with the service judge and that's that. It was not their first time for such outburst. The best punishment for them is to allow them to continue their behaviour. Eventually, vulgarities and tantrums would prevail and their final on court showmanship is over. Perhaps, it's already happening than later (their age).
The Korean players and coaches pay a heavy price for their mistake during the 2012 Olympics fiasco. That happen because the than BWF headman was a Korean. For the same this time!!?? Hahaha.........let's wait and see................
Thanks Kwun and Oldhand. I look forward to see other's support for this cause too in the near future. Thanks again.
We are already seeing a lot of official abuse in the game of soccer. I hope this sort of behavior doesn't creep into badminton.
If nothing's done about it, not even an official reprimand from BWF and/or DBA, then it sets a bad precedent as well as tarnishes the sport which already has been hit by some unsavoury news recently. Mathias has indeed crossed the line by confronting or harassing the service judge directly immediately after the match instead of voicing his grievances or lodging his complaint through proper channels via the tournament referee or through his association, DBA. In other words, sore loser or not, such behaviour amounted to an act of intimidation and should be viewed as such and dealt with appropriately. Surely his action of putting his arm round the service judge's shoulders and uttering those words in no way constitute a friendly chat as they are not even personally acquainted (or do they know each other? Even so, still unacceptable in full view of the public). As to whether LYD's serve is acceptable or not, it's a separate issue. Even if BWF subsequently ruled it as illegal, that does not in any way excuse Boe's misbehaviour. It'll be wise for DBA to take the lead in censuring Boe's indiscretion, still not too late, rather than let BWF initiate it,; worse still, if the badminton community has to raise a ruckus in condemning such misconduct, by then any disciplinary action may be seen as reactionary or even insincere for being belated and, therefore, won't reflect well on BWF and/or DBA.
