    2013 WINNERS => http://bwf.tournamentsoftware.com/s...06A499-97EF-4885-AA68-2CEAAB2DAE21&d=20131124

MS - Lee Chong Wei (MAS)
    WS - Wang Yihan (CHN)
MD - Lee Yong Dae/Yoo Yeon Seong (KOR)
WD - Bao Yixin/Tang Jinhua (CHN)
XD - Chris Adcock/Gabrielle White (ENG)

The last stop of 12 SS installments and it will be culminated on Dubai Finals next month. Two prominent names who miss HKG Open this year are world #1 in singles discipline Lee Chong Wei and Li Xuerui. And some withdrawals of main draw according to last update from ts com : Lin Dan (CHN), Nichaon Jindapon (THA), Selvanus Geh/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo (INA), Tang Jinhua/Tang Yuanting (CHN).

We'll see heavyweight competition in all five categories and upsets may happen as usual at high level tournament, the winners become so unpredictable as we witness lately.

The qualification will be started tomorrow, the most notable names in this stage none but two runner-ups of just concluded CHN Open SSP, Akane Yamaguchi and Korean mixed Yoo Yeon Seong/Eom Hye Won. Both of them had displayed excellent badminton in Fuzhou and looking forward to do same feat in Hong Kong.

MS top two contenders, Chen Long and Jan Jorgensen will be challenged by a number of darkhorses like Son Wan Ho, Chou Tien Chen, Srikanth, Kashyap and certainly home hope Wei Nan & Hu Yun. Similar story for WS as last year winner and runner-ups, Wang Yihan and Wang Shixian will find tough path into final contest, a string of strong rivals such as Nehwal, Sindhu, Marin, Intanon and Japanese WS may derail their mission here.

In doubles department, there's interesting development that some scratch pairs will try their skill against the established partnerships.

QUALIFICATION order of play (09.30am local time, 4 courts) => http://www.tournamentsoftware.com/s...C97B56-47EC-4612-9850-455FB7F5DA5B&d=20141118

It has became a custom now!!
WS often has more fascinating draws and encounters..
But in MS discipline the battle amongst the DARK HORSES should be very interesting..assuming the top two seeds to reach the finals..its really difficult to predict the other two in the SF
I find all of them at the same level...
KS CTC PK TS KT KM HKV VA WZM THW MZ(injured ..so he might not play)
WHS is a tough contender though..I sincerely find him a notch higher these days

So finally Lin Dan has decided to heed Cheung's advice, let his knee recover fully than risk further injury. Just as well. We'll have to wait until March next year to see the living legend in action, I suppose.

    So LD not playing.
It may not help his confidence if he were to lose again.

Lin Dan's original plan was to play the four Superseries, namely DEN, French, CHN and HK, followed by the Dubai SSF, and even talked about regaining the WR1 status. Unfortunately, the knee injury incurred in Denmark threw a spanner in the works. Nevertheless, we were extremely lucky to be treated to an amazing feat by the less-than-fit Lin Dan actually progressing to the final despite the odds, a one of a kind achievement for the record.

Not to worry, next year we can expect Lin Dan to play actively and regularly in the international circuit as required by his new sponsorship contract and as part of his quest for the Rio Olympics gold and beyond. Thanks to Lin Dan, we can look forward to several more years of wonderful badminton from the redoubtable maestro himself continuing to set and break new records as only he could. Lin Dan's era, it certainly still is and will be for as long as he keeps on playing.

Good to see SDK back and he may meet CL in the QF should he progress that far.
CL's should clear round 1 & 2 easily and SF is where the real test is with either CTC or KS.

LD hurt his knee from playing soccer after the Asian Games. The injury was aggravated at Denmark Open.

Soccer is often off limit to athletes due to its danger. But being a men's game, it would be hard to really exclude soccer from a group of people who are competitive in nature.

Thanks for the clarification, RedShuttle, it sheds more light on how Lin Dan injured himself at the DEN Open.

Guys, this is a thread for the HK Open. Let's try not to turn it into a Lin Dan sub-plot thread, with all the attendant bickering. Some respect and appreciation for all the other players and participants would be nice. :)

    Thank you.

Any idea if there will be live court feed and weekend coverage on the QF/SF/F?

Should be. I think it is standard for all SS tournaments as we have seen all with live feed before.

It's wise decision for him to pull out, gives more time to recuperate his injury. Yup, since no big tournament at January & February next year, he should attend AE as first tournament in new season.

Also glad to see Simon Santoso is back in action to accompany sole fighter Tommy Sugiarto.

There will be 3 INA WS playing today, one of them (Yulia Yosephine) will play against China Open 2014 runner up AY, seems like Akane will destroy this girl.
I guess Millicent Wiranto will have a better chance to win the match!

Glad to see Simon Santoso is back in the game, stunned by his play recently.

At first game Akane demolished Yulia but the Indonesian did better to deliver some resistance in game 2, the match is ended with 21-8 / 21-18 for Japanese teen star.
