Can any one explain why Dutch Open had 11 point games (the changed format) and Danish Open still has 21 point games (existing format)? Did BWF give up scoring changes?
I think they are testing the 11xpoint format. To me that format sux. Not as exciting as the 21xpoints format.
What I heard is that the BWF is still testing the new scoring system at the smaller tournaments. Denmark Open is a Premier SuperSeries tournament which is much much bigger than the Dutch Open. The other tournaments in the SuperSeries-Circuit were played with the 3x21 scoring system, too - so they couldn't change the scoring system while the tournament circuit for this year is still in progress.
They are testing the 11 point format from lower level tournaments to higher level tournaments. It was tested in junior tournaments. Later they have started to test in senior circuit , first in" international challenge" tournaments, later "international series" tournaments, now tested in "grand prix" tournaments. I guess they will go for GPG tournaments then superseries and finally superseries premier tournaments.
OK, that makes sense. Unfortunately for me, I didn't like the 11 point format myself. I would still prefer 21 point format with 3 games.
After taking the first game easily, sindhu left yippy to lead for most of the second game and even yippy had 4 game points . But took next 6 points from 16-20 down in the second game to clinch the match.
The existing format is better than the 11x5match. If they want to change, I prefer 21 points for the 1st 2 games, rubber game change to 11 points. Much more exciting., thoughts anyone?
That is why I like it. Both players tired but they have to go all out instead of preserving energy for another gruelsome match
