Some interested comparison between Lee CW and Lee YD Similarities: 1) Both are ranked world number 1 in their fields. 2) Both are regarded as most talented 3) High expectations from their fans and countries to win at AG 4) Sharing the same last name: Lee Difference: 1) LCW can easily win against most players except LD and now CL. LCW's LinDanPhobia; while LYD can win against any players normally, except Championship finals. LYD's ChampionPhobia.
Lin Dan, the 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] player in history to win all multi-year events gold medal at least TWICE (the first one was Gao Ling) Olympics (2) : 2008, 2012 World Championships (5) : 2006, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013 Thomas Cup (5) : 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012 Sudirman Cup (4) : 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011 Asian Games Team Event (2) : 2006, 2010 Asian Games Individual Event (2) : 2010, 2014
LYD is still ahead one Gold over LCW. Maybe LYD should have stuck with XD winning Gold in the '08 BOG. But sadly, MD championships have eluded him.
Your similarity 2 is wrong. No one considers Lee Chong Wei as most talented, not even he himself. His coach (Tey Seu Bock)considers LD and LCW to be equal at skills, with Lin Dan very strong mentally. Other people (including me) consider LD to be more talented. And people do fear superior players, so LCW's fear can be attributed to that, if it is fear that's blocking him. (I doubt that). Even Rished Sidek, LCW's other coach talks very highly of Lin Dan and not only considers him to be much more talented than LCW but also the greatest in sport's history. http://www.badminton-information.com/rashid-sidek-interview.html http://www.thestar.com.my/Sport/Bad...-for-top-ten-return-with-Australian-Open-win/
Lin Dan only can be compared to the other 2 MS, also from China : Tang Xianhu and Zhao Jianhua...as the only 3 candidates to become The Greatest MS of All Time
only several players can win all multi-year events gold medal, and they are all from China : Ge Fei, Gu Jun, Gao Ling, Lin Dan, and Zhao Yunlei
unbeatable ? I'm sorry to say, I'm not agree. they are beatable...everyone is beatable (no one has 100% winning records)
next AG will be held in arch rival country, Indonesia. can China still become the overall winner ? it is very difficult to win the men's team in next AG...against host Ina.
i think physically lin dan also slightly more talented than leecw. lindan is more powerful and also slightly quicker on court coverage.
1974 Teheran 1982 New Delhi 1986 Seoul 1990 Beijing 1998 Bangkok 2006 Doha 2010 Guangzhou 2014 Incheon overall winner #8 for China
Is tang xianhu , one of chinese ws coaches? Just now searched in google and found his picture resembles one of the current chinese coaches...
Dude, he is widely considered one of the most accomplished coaches in the world, the secret behind players like Lin Dan, Zhang Ning, Cai/Fu etc. Even Lee Chong Wei went to ask for tips from him while in china playing in the China Badminton League. Not only this, as the commenter posted above, he was an exceptional player during his career, but could not participate in international tournaments often due to international isolation (politically) of the People's Republic of China. Some consider him a candidate for the best 'thing' ever. Thanks for the links, highly interesting and informative, esp the Rashid Sidek's honest and revealing interview as well as The Thing's profile.
Well, LD comes close. This year, he's now 27-1 (96+%). Only defeat to Jan O J, at a time where Jan O was probably playing the best so far in his career (before he got injured at the WC). And it's not like he hasn't played any top opponents. Such a shame that LYB effectively prohibited LD from playing the World Champs - it must have felt sooo good for LD beating CL in the AG final, for this very reason. CL seems like an overall very nice and sympathetic guy - but from LD's point of view, this match was important in regards to his struggles with the CBF, it's politics and LYB in particular. CL was "their man on court". MAYBE the BWF decision of not granting LD a wildcard, just could turn out to be a wise decision, putting some much needed pressure on CBF to start re-thinking their view on the sport. I know there are quite a lot of cultural difference at stake here between the countries, but it seems that CBF/LYB needed a slap over the wrists to get the ball rolling. Honestly, in the long run, it could ultimately ruin our sport - at least get it removed from the olympics, if we don't take it seriously. Again at the WCs we saw China vs. China matchups which was predetermined and didn't play out fair for all players. At the freaking WC! Not good for our sport. The way forward, ultimately, is to move the sport into a direction where it will be more of an individual sport, and considered less of a team sport. National federations should not have the ultimate control of individual players participating in individual championships - like they do now. ----- Anyway, congrats to LD for showing that he is indeed back, and for winning an important match against CBF/LYB.
