Agree and I thought someone here said LCW is unbeatable with LD out of touch and CL is disastrous form. Spoke too soon. Little did we realise that an unseeded player managed to prove this wrong.
It's always AWESOME to see someone else besides Lee Chong Wei or Chen Long win a title. Very sharp attacking from Simon Santoso today, really happy for him!
YAY, SIMON! At least now we have someone else besides the usual suspects who can hopefully challenge the boring old status quo.
So apart from Lin Dan and Chen Long, who else have beaten LCW these past 5 - 6 years ? Son Wan Ho, J O Jorgensen, Kenichi Tago, Du Pengyu, Tian Houwei, and now Simon Santoso.
Disagree, LCW's movement was not at his best, but Simon definitely outplayed and outmaneuvered him in many rallies. I don't think LCW was overconfident, just maybe feeling the lag from last week. But I don't want to take anything from Simon because Simon playing like this can match LCW's normal form.
Anybody who thought it's going to be a cakewalk for LCW today must be shaking his head in disbelief. Simon Santoso is still 'only' 28 years old, he has several good years ahead of him. Aiming for Rio'16 ?
Yes, I'm completely not a fan of LCW at all and even I can see that he was playing below his usual standard. However, I won't say any more than that because Simon played awesomely and richly deserves his win. It's good to see that even Simon recognizes that he has to raise his game even further as evinced from the post-match interview.
Again, it shows that winning two consecutive tournaments on the road is simply very difficult. That throws an interesting variable when players have to manage their tournament schedule and BWF wants the best players to showcase in all the Superseries tournaments. It gives other lower ranked players a crack at the title. A little diversity is good for the game.
interesting. This is not a Yonex-sponsored event. And no yonex players won. do yonex players get extra prize money if it were a yonex event?
I suspect LCW may have actually underestimated Simon in G1, and only after he was stunned that he sensed danger, but then things still didn't go right for him, misjudgements, wrong linecall challenges, luck of the net cord against him, fooled by flick serve - all of which frustrated and annoyed him, so much so he ran out of ideas and probably felt like giving up towards the end. A great victory for Simon Santoso. Congratulations, SIN Open SS 2014 MS Champion.
