I heard from a friend, who works at a popular badminton proshop in town, saying that Yonex is discontinuing BG80 and keeping the bG80P only. I went on MBS and tried looking for BG80 reels that I previously bought hoping to stock up and it is gone already. I believe that is why MBS had a huge sale on their BG80 strings a couple months ago. I did all the searching just a day ago.
oh, really? that's sad, one of the best strings gone. well, come and hop on to Zymax band wagon then lol.. or you can stick with BG66UM.. or VS850..
MBS has a tendency to de-list items that are out of stock. So I wouldn't take that as being "discontinued". What was the huge sale of BG-80 reels? Quite a few Yonex reels have been on permanent sale for a while now.
I just had a racquet strung at MBS last week using BG80. Admittedly, it came from a packet and not the roll.
I find it very unlikely that Yonex would discontinue the BG80 entirely. It is too popular a string. I have not tried the 80power so I can not make a comparison between the two.
I have also heard from a friend that BG80 is discontinued. They said that BG80 is already gone from some of the asian markets but in North america it is still here for a little while longer. I used bg80 but since i heard it was discontinued I quickly switched to bg85 and am enjoying it very much. But then...... the rumour of bg85 being gone too... now i don't know what to use. i tried bg80 power and it's just not my cup of tea.
Rumour has it (but it's a flimsy rumour) the UK is getting it in white. Discontinued in Asia but coming here in a new colour? What on earth is going on?! IMHO, retiring BG80 would be an utter bone-head move. I can only think they've sunk enough money into BG80P and it's doing so badly that they're having to force the shift...
Terrible idea from Yonex if they're actually thinking of doing this. BG80 is a staple string and shouldn't be removed ever.
I can confirm that BG80 will be available in UK in white from June. It will be available in reels and sets to add to the yellow versions we have. Why other retailers do not have the string in stock is a mystery. Paul www.badminton-coach.co.uk
Thanks Paul, I'm starting to think it was a marketing ploy to get everyone stocking up on Yellow BG80 to clear stock space for the BG80 in white! Good news though, I don't think anyone wants to see BG80 going out of production, regardless of colour.
I agree. Whilst I don't use this string and it's not on my favourites list, I would not like to see it withdrawn from the market as it's a players favourite. Paul www.badminton-coach.co.uk
