This list can only be wrong if Schenk can blaze her way to Hongkong Final and make Tai Tzu Ying out

Almost. Schenk only needs the 6420 points from making the semi-finals to pass Tai, who won only 3600 points this week. That's hard enough, though, considering that she needs to beat Wang Shixian to do it.

Nope, no chance for Ajay Jayaram to qualify. He would not have made it even if he made it to the finals of the HK Open.

That's not true. If he had made the finals, he would have had 43830 points to current #8 Hu Yun's 43180. Even Marc Zwiebler had a shot that would have necessitated a Hong Kong Open title.

Anyway, it's a moot point. With the English loss today, even the extra MD spot is decided, in the event that Ko/Lee do not choose / get forced to participate.

If I'd heard GC right during the HK Open MS final today, she was saying that had Chen Long just appeared to play a few points before retiring in R1, he would have still qualified for the SSF.

Now it's purely wishful thinking that some kind souls might decide to withdraw and make way for Chen Long to get in. Or else, expect LCW, after nearly 3-weeks rest and in front of his home crowd on homeground, to walk all over every single one of his opponents all the way to the final.

For Intanon's absence, I feel that Porntip is worthy of taking her place to challenge the Chinese; it would be great to have them both in , but that seems highly improbable.

What remains true now is... Ajay doesn't qualify. ;)

Also incorrect. Alan's numbers are correct, of course. Chen Long would have had 42760 if he had lost in the 1st round. Hu Yun finished at #8 with 43180. Also, at the time, Chen didn't know so many chasers would lose so early. At the time, even with Chen getting the additional 2220 points, 7 shuttlers (all the way down the list to Zwiebler) still could have caught him even though a few of them would have needed to win the tournament.

I guess it's not impossible but perhaps improbable. Since the BWF started fining players for not going, there have been a few cases of players withdrawing to cede their spot to another: Saina Nehwal, was the first when injured in 2010, and Reiko Shiota, who had retired before the finals in 2012. Last year, Jang Ye Na also got injured and pulled out by the injury happened 3 days earlier and I believe she still went, but didn't play. They'd already confirmed and it was too late to make a substitution. 5 others had withdrawn in time, though, so it can happen.

Ok boss. I have some doubt.. Would they group something like 'odd' series and 'even' series..? I mean ..1,3,5,7 and 2,4,6,8 or in some other format??

If they group something like this :

    WS will look like

    Grp A

    1. Wang Shixian
    2. Bae Yeon Ju
    3. Li Xuerui
    4. Sung Ji Hyun

Korea and China has 2 players each.

    Grp B

    1. Saina Nehwal
    2. Portnip
    3. Minatsu Mitani
    4. Tai Tzu Ying

Four countries represent Group B. Am i right??

    Other.
    Not intentionally.
They will separate players or pairs only if they are first and second seeds. They then have a draw of the two 3/4 seeds and then they choose the groups for the remaining 4 at random. In Taipei in the 2010 edition (in January 2011), the local officials were rejoicing because the formidable Chinese pairs ended up in the same groups, away from the Taiwan pairs. In fact, this happened in all 3 cases where it could happen and only the two Wangs in WS were separated, that being guaranteed by their seeding. In MS, MD, and WD, there were only one or zero seeded Chinese. However, the two Chinese pairs in MD and WD still ended up in separate semi-finals and in the WD, this facilitated in an all-Chinese final.

Looks like Wang Yihan just sneaked in through the slightest opening she found pushing out TTY at the last moment or did she missed it? Whats the cutoff date?
