This must be the greatest upset of the day, this year's young "giant" WC bronze medallist losing to a 'tiny" but determined veteran in WS: :D

Eriko Hirose (Japan) defeated Sindhu P. V. (India) 21-19, 22-20.

    Well done Eriko!

The arena doesn't look very big for a PSS, the first round and its already looking pretty full, don't Denmark have a bigger one?

If Han Li cannot win in two, she'll lose in three, Soldier Schenk is a supreme athlete and amazing retriever among WS.

Such a well deserved victory for Schenk - with all the drama she's been facing with her federation and the difficulties that that has led to, she looks so grateful and overcome with every win she pulls off, no matter if it's against a major or minor player.

Han Li played better than I expected of her, she's improved. I venture to say, a fresher Han Li might have taken the crucial points at the end of G3.

I suspect something wrong with Tai TY in G2 because I doubt Gu Juan can thump her by that score 21-11. Anyway, good for Gu Juan to advance to the next round where the experienced 'veteran', Eriko Hirose, awaits.

I think TTY still knee injury cause she walkover for Han Li in East asian game and Gu Juan is in good from because she is finalist Dutch open last week.

Last week's Dutch Open WD winner, Tang/Bao, slipped up in G1 when 17-12 up.

appeared to be some kind of commotion between the service judge? and the umpire in the england vs denmark MD match. after the match was done the service judge (might be someone else? not sure) went to talk to the umpire saying "the line judge called it in and you gave them the match when they celebrated, you did not overrule it?" the mic was on

Total domination by Chen Long over Anand Pawar - obviously Anand Pawar is no LCW, but I wonder if Chen Long is once again ready to take LCW on?

If Chen Long takes down another player of Indian descent (Rajiv Ouseph) tomorrow, there'll be so much knicker twisting from some that they'll be speaking in falsettoes for weeks afterwards. Hah!

What an undesirable draw for the CHN WS, four of them, all bunched up in the same quadrant. Just wondering, with LXR having a bit of a knee problem and WSX a bit jaded from the East Asian Games,I'm speculating if we might get to see Sun Yu and Wang Xin avail themselves of this opportunity to advance further.
