As I expected, Indian badminton belongs to their younger cohort. Prannoy overcomes JOJ and K Srikanth stops giant-killer Kozai. Not surprising that very few players can handle back-to-back tournaments, JOJ and Porntip stump by their respective opponents today after a good showing last week.
Angga/Rian also Nitya/Greysia are stopped at R/16, defeated by Danish MD Conrad/Kolding and TPE pair Cheng WH/Hsieh PC respectively
India's MS are doing so well. Glad to know it... I am still upset on the defeat of Rian/Angga against Danish 2nd pair.
Defending XD Champion, Chan/Goh, ousted 21-8 / 21-16. They lack of spirit, speed, and teamwork based on what I see from the match against LC/BYX... In 2013, They have only been to final once at home, Malaysian Open on January, and never reach semifinal ever since, lost twice in QF of Djarum Indonesian Open and Malaysian Grand Prix Gold. The rest of the tournament, they lost even before the QF, pretty disappointing despite of their world ranking no. 5 in the world. Going forward to year-end, they have to defend their ranking point, having reach the final of China Open SSP, and semifinalist at Denmark Open SSP & Hongkong SS last year. If they lose early at all these tournament, high chance their ranking would drop outside top 5 XD.
Today's surprises Part of the today's surprises: ranking #319 beat #8 --> the biggest casualty! talking in term of upset i think Japan SS is doing better than the so called everyone in the world will lost to unknown home player tournament.
I've seen Yamaguchi play live earlier in the year. She's only 15-16 years old, but she is very mature and has amazing court movement for such a little person. Not surprised she beat Sindhu, but surprised by the scoreline!
Japan WS players are impressive here to secure 5 QF slots so far, the latest one is Akane Yamaguchi who overcomes IND rising star P.V. Sindhu, 21-6 / 21-17.
