The degree of difficulty in last dive :

    Daley (3,3) average score 9 to 9,5
    Boudia (3,4) average 9 to 9,5
    Qiu Bo (3,6) average 8 to 8,5

but yes it was so close at the end..

    Diving - final medal count

A substantial setback for China team in Men's events compared to Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, losing another gold medal in Men's 10m Platform following up their earlier failure in Men's 3m Platform.

China still wins the most medals in diving though they're facing bigger challenges in the men's events, there are more excellent divers from more countries.

    Here's the final medal standing:

It should be a great disappointment for Qiu Bo for losing in such a razor-thin margin (1.80) to David in a basically three-way race (another relatively close contender was Thomas).

Both Qiu Bo and Thomas Daley are the fave to win gold here but David Boudia stole the show last night, it's really close total point between Boudia and Qiu.

If you look carefully at the final dive through reply, I don't know how Qiu Bo doesn't get a higher score with a higher DoD.

It was already no gold sweep when the Russian won the 3m. In the 10m China was leading in preliminary and semis. The US guy just scrape thru in 18th to go semi. From 18th to gold, wow.

Points doesn't carry over, so as long as you can get into final, anything goes.

I saw Chen Ruolin in tears after Qiu Bo failed to get the better of Boudia.

A bit of pressure got to Qiu Bo in the final dive, and thus a bit more splash. Really close .....

    The reasons :

    1. Qiu Bo already in 3rd before final dive and the gap of score between him and Daley&Boudia quite "large", he had to play catch up
    2. He didnt make perfect ending..bit of water splash while Daley and Boudia were perfect
    3. Well the subjectivities are part on this sports so...even only play the tiniest part of the game it does exist.

I know. I meant I saw how the American dived in preliminary round, a lot of mistakes, that's why he ended up in 18th. At one point Boudia looked like he wasnt going to make the semis. In semi was better but overall US is lesser known as compared to fav China, Aust(2008 OG champion Matthew Mitcham) and England's Tom Daley. China was leading 1,2 in preliminary and semi, doing very good dives, the others had hitches here & there.

It's different from the men's 3m where the defending champion, He Chong, was not diving perfect dives since preliminary- he did better at the diving World Cup. Same with the 2nd China diver Qin Kai. The Russian was getting better at each stage, Zakharov's final 2 dives were 3.9 & 3.8 difficulty and he did it flawlessly. Qin Kai was crying when the results were announced.

It seems the Westerners took some time to warm up and do better dives while China are consistent from the start but the pressure got to them in the end.

Probably strategy, probably slow to warm up, but the USA boy really delivered when it mattered. It also upset the Chinese rhythm, suddenly finding tough competition in the two finals that they lost.Outright brilliance indeed ..... Congrats USA and Russia. Congrats too for other nations who were able to deny China from 2 podium finishes in a single event.

The judges were generous to Qiu Bo early but got stringent at the end when Qiu Bo did not show his usual impeccable form. All and all, the judging was as fair as one can expect from a judged event. Qiu Bo himself said the judging was fair.
