I think Елена is the Russian name, Elena is the Russian version in English and Yelena is the English version.
The Japanese runner in the final leg of the 4 x 100m relay is really fast. If he is Shōta Iizuka, then I'm very surprised that he did not take part in the century sprint.
...then, there's that World meet where the world record breaker gets extra money ($500 to $1m) to break the record. So it pays to hold their horses. Of course there is a chance of that dreaded injury that one might never recover thereby killing that chance to squeeze it ever so slightly each and every time they perform. However, Bolt ever the showman has already done it both in the Beijing and London Olympics...slowing down at the final strides to put a show in the grandest world stage! I wonder if he can do the feat a 3rd time in Rio (at 29 years old)? Also wonder what would've been his best time if he did an all out effort at his peak (presumably now)?
I see. Always thought that performance in the Olympics offered the most rewards. After all, Bolt did do his 9.58s in Beijing. Speaking of world events, I still remember those gold kilobars? which they used to give out for a grand slam, and the unfortunate soul who missed out by coming in second in the final leg.
Luckily the officials of the 200m sprint are not the same as the ones who were in charge of the YY/WXL badminton match. Otherwise, Bolt would have been kicked out of this Olympics.
That was a brilliant last leg of the race, coming from behind like that and passing USA with a reasonably big gap at the tape. The rest of the field was miles behind.
Well this is surprise!! Chantal Lowe of US failed to get any medal after wonderful season Thordkilsen and Pitkamaki also failed in javelin...
After US lost in 4x400 by Bahamas, strong Jamaica team lead by Bolt closed the athletic in 4x100m beat US again in new record time 3 golds for Bolt !! Terrific....
Only consolation for US is winning 4x400m women lead by Allyson Felix miles ahead of Russia and Jamaica...
Men's 4 x 100m Relay ~ JAMAICA SETS A NEW WORLD RECORD Men's 4 x 100m Relay -GOLD: Jamaica 36.84 * New WORLD RECORD (previously 37.04) -SILVER: USA 37.04 (National Record) -BRONZE: Canada 38.07 Jamaica team consists of: Nesta Carter; Yohan Blake; Michael Frater; Usain Bolt
Jamaica, with a population of only 3 million, is ruling the lanes in the sprints, while the 350,000 or so Bahamians are kings of the middle distance. The Carribean nations must be doing something right with their athletics programmes.
How is it that Carribean so strong in athletics short an middle distance ??? Too many beautiful beaches ??? What are they eating
