anyone watched the 3rd round match last night that the 16 yrs old American girl (Ariel Hsing) took 2 games off the world No 2. GREAT
and the world champion and world no 1 Zhang Jike only just got to QF with a close 4-3 win over a guy from Belarus
I happened to watch it AlanY. Yes, Ariel played very well, with great confidence, she's able to deal with Li Xiaoxia and caused a lot of difficulties to her. Li eventually won with narrow margins, but the fight was really an epic one for Ariel Hsing, a paddler that i never heard before i just wonder who's the young girl and her background. Ariel is now very famous in the Bay Area. The local TV's, both Chinese and main stream, having been reporting her stories in the past few months. One day the TV reporter interviewed his dad, and he was my ex-colleague a few years ago. How amazing. I bet everyone in the Bay Area was proud of her after taking 2 games from the 2nd best player from China. Hope to see her shine again in Brazil in 4 years.
oh, she is very famous in USA, national champion at 15. Bill Gate was there last night and she call him uncle Bill.
Well, 2nd best in China already meant 2nd best in the world. I think the 10th best in China also means 10th best in the world.
Yes, Ariel is from around my area! (Fremont/San Jose) She met "uncle" Bill and "uncle" Warren back at a charity and she visits them annually and plays ping pong against them. I watched her 2nd round match where she played a 49 year old. Very interesting. She also screams "Soh!" like badminton players do (not sure how common that is in table tennis compared to badminton)
The Men's QUARTERFINALS, Wed, 01 Aug - 10:00 will play following: - ZHANG Jike (CHN) vs (HKG) JIANG Tianyi - Dimitrij OVTCHAROV (GER) vs (DEN) Michael MAZE - Adrian CRISAN (ROU) vs (TPE) CHUANG Chih-Yuan - Seiya KISHIKAWA (JPN) vs (CHN) WANG Hao The biggest surrpise in the Men's 4th Round today, the European Champion, Timo BOLL, was just ousted 1-4 by the Romanian's paddler, Adrian CRISAN. A big upset indeed!
well, i'm afraid that it's only the team of coach or just Liu Guoliang himself know the answer but to my GUESS, they picked Wang Hao because of his experience. It's the only aspect he excels Ma Long nowadays. And perhaps to grant him the last Olympic chance to win the gold. If not mistaken, Wang Hao already missed the chances in last two Olympics.
That is certainly rather shocking. But I believe the current guy in form is Zhang Jike. They may have decided to go for one penholder and the other with a shakehand grip. But anyway, don't think there is anyone in world who can beat both Wang Hao AND Zhang Jike in the same tournament.
Gone too is Matthew Syed. He must have clocked the most number of miles for a table tennis player, lol.

Feng Tianwei may fare somewhat a better chance if she plays against Li Xiaoxia i/o Ding Ning i think Ding Ning is her nemesis, more gas & firing power anyhow i trust she'll grab a medal, it's just color matter... SF 1 kicks off !
