    If LD targets only the big tournaments, please explain why he cared to play in this tiny Thai Open?

    LD tried to do a LCW in this tiny Thai Open. Like LCW who said he just wanna enjoy India Open (by turning up to play without preparations), LD said he just wanna enjoy this tiny Thai Open. Well, LCW reached the finals in incredible India Open, LD reached the semi finals in tiny Thai Open ( too bad ,LD s assists were in the wrong half.) Now what I don t understand about your post is all the implied power of PRC. I post ' anti-CHN ' stuff when Team CHN behave in despicable manners like walkovers ( and other stuff that is unique to the only king of walkovers that is LD) good that you personally know of a PRC professor in this forum. If he has not pronounce his wisdom on the cowardice that is unique to CBA, please ask him to do so. I should be delighted to read his PRC opinion. I am a Chinese Sporean, not Chinese national. Because I am Chinese by race, I am disgusted by the cheating behaviour of CBA. Their cowardice let my race down so I gotta feed back. I have come across some PRCs here who behave like Spore is beholden to China but there are also other PRCs who are civilised. There are Chinese nationals here for sure, their voice is louder than the Malaysians ( who seem to have dwindled) given their small number. In fact we have one non-Chinese national who is such a big fan of CHN, whose posts flood the forum every day, so in the long run, PRC opinion will prevail, no worries. But remember, there is more than China in this world. Every part of the world take turns to prosper. Now is China s hour, next may be South America, then Africa, etc. if you are originally at the bottom, the only way is up. By the way, when it comes to opinions, the PRC professor is just like any other. It s only as good as he can back it up. I m no PRC fan.

    I was born in China and now live in a foreign country as a PR. I have come to accept the country as my adopted homeland. Does that make me a Chinese national or not?

    What irritates me in this forum? The irritation goes back a long way. It is a well-known fact that whenever Chinese players play in a certain country in SEA three quarters of the spectators will cheer against them, if not jeer them, even when their opponents are not from the home country. I thought that this was just hearsay until I went there to watch the World Championship. I came away very upset by the anti-China sentiments. And here we have some BCers from that country constantly trying to promote the sentiments by picking on China’s national badminton hero and by extension, China for not showing good sportsmanship and doing things damaging to the sports of Badminton because of this and that. What peeved me most is the sarcasm of LD not able to play because he drank too much water. This is as though the Singapore tournament doctor was so incompetent or was conniving with LD to cheat.. Isn’t it because of China that badminton is what it is today? These few BCers always talk so much of sportsmanship and what is good for badminton. Why not educate your spectators first on what is good sportsmanship by respecting players from China before you start pointing your fingers at them. It will do a lot of good for badminton. Didn’t you all notice how well PG, LCW and Tauffik are respected in China. In fact, Taufik is so welcomed there that he enjoys playing in the Chinese super league, the high salary he gets not withstanding.

    It is very easy to pick on little petty things to condemn somebody or play down his achievements. For example I can question why LCW didn’t show better sportsmanship by going up to the umpire to tell him that Tago’s shot was actually in in the AE finals 3 years ago. Don’t tell me that no player will do that because Han Jian did just that in the TC finals in the Royal Albert Hall in 1982. The shuttle hit his racket before it went out and he was awarded the point against Liem Swie King. He went up to the umpire to correct the score and mind you it was in China’s first TC finals. You can verify this with Swie King. I can also question why LCW was so ungracious in defeat when he lost to Chen Long in India. Why mentioned diarrhea as an excuse and why couldn’t he be more magnanimous in victory when he avenged his defeat by giving Chen Long a hiding in the MO. Why tell the whole world he thrashed CL the way he did because CL was China rising star and he wanted to shatter his confidence. I can also say that LCW deliberately gave a walk- over to LD to deny the latter an outright win by faking shoulder injury when he knew he couldn’t win that day.
    My sincere apologies to LCW for saying all these things. In fact I am a great fan of LCW too. I am just giving examples of how easy it is to find fault with somebody if we set our mind on it.

    As for your question on what is the most popular spectator sport in China, I can say that it is definitely not badminton. May be it is TT or volleyball or basketball

    I'm new to this sport. In fact I know nothing about it at all. I went to watch Thailand open yesterday at CU sport complex. I saw two Malaysian played against each other in Men's double. Both teams played very well but what surprised me the most was their appearances. None of them looks anything like other athletes or sport persons let alone top badminton players. They look very heavy, plump or fat in case of one player with a Chinese name (Sorry, I don't remember) but yet all are very agile. I wonder if these have anything to do the way they trained. Please enlighten me. Thanks a lot.

    Well said flyvet. I respect your opinion on these matters how fans can go against one country. One reason may be because it has to do with CHN dominating badminton since the 1980s until now. Naturally, any team who is very good at something will receive jeers from a neutral spectator, let alone a spectator from a rival country. A neutral spectator usually wants to see other teams do well too. If you look at the statistics of badminton for the past 10-20 years, you can see all the major titles have been won by CHN players (if not all ). Yes there are some exceptions from other countries that have talent in different categories, but CHN have had the most success in many of the lot.

    Go to Professional Players --> Open Statistics under BC forum, and you will see the overwhelming percentage of titles won by CHN. If CHN won less titles in badminton, naturally there would be more support for them(automatically). A neutral spectator doesn't want to see one country dominate all titles at once if you ask me.

    Btw, I wanted Ratchanok to win today :p . Too bad, oh well. Maybe next time she will perform better. Welll done against a more experience player today though.

    flyvet, on your question if your considered a PRC national or not, it depends on whether you consider yourself to be one or a national of another country. If you are PR in a western country, you should heed your own advice in your post to others earlier too (don't look to other countries to accept you if something goes wrong for you there).

    Pardon me,I know your post isn't addressed to me,it's up to flyvet to respond. Allow me to say a few words,no quarrel.

    1) Lin Dan never ever need any "assists", in fact he's the one assisting others including foreigners,eg K Tago, Wong Wing Ki;

    2) Absolutely,cowardice and cheating are intolerable and despicable behaviour but you've to be very clear before you condemn though I admire your high-mindedness - we can discuss this further in the relevant thread(s);

    3) I'm very much against being pro or anti any country because everywhere you've the good,the bad,and the ugly (not referring to looks) - we ought to be for whatever is good,right,and true and against evil no matter who,where,what (easier said than done because we need to be sincere,honest and wise to tell right from wrong, and I often make mistakes, it's a lifelong learning process);

    4) Like you I know many Chinese nationals and PRs, some I like and respect much,some I find obnoxious and loathe, remember the guy who drove his Ferrari like a rocket killing himself, the taxi driver whose vehicle he rammed into,and the Japanese lady passenger (I don't want any of his ilk here). As for those Chinese nationals who behave like Singapore is beholden to them,how wrong can they be (I think it's just a misunderstanding) - somebody will never allow that,the US to whom SG is beholden to, don't forget she has a military base here (think about it,don't get the wrong idea);

    5) Don't worry too much about the sheer number of Chinese nationals outnumbering the Malaysians such that their opinions will prevail in this forum - ultimately what will prevail is reason, not numbers. As long as you have reason and truth on your side, even if you are alone facing millions that include Professors,Phd Holders,lawyers - you've nothing to fear, reason will prevail;

    6) We should see the big picture,understand at least some of the history and current developments,go a bit deeper to know the true reality of what's happening in the world and the socio-political motives behind it...and not let a few unhappy incidents and experiences with a small group of people,whether Chinese nationals or any nationality, shape our views and attitudes towards them as a whole...;

    7) You're right, throughout history civilizations rise and fall, so do nations, and China happens to be rising again but far from rivaling the sole superpower US. However,who would have thought,just 20 years after the disintegration of the former Soviet Union,they are now talking about the coming collapse of the American Empire, one famous sociologist,Johan Galtung predicting "The Fall of The US Empire" by 2020. Luckily, China has always been talking about her peaceful rise, peaceful co-existence and mutual cooperation, so far so good. Peace and Loving-kindness.:)

    In the ideal world, reasons prevail. But in the real world, money and power will prevail.

    Sinophobia has existed for at least 1000 years. It will likely continue for 10,000 years more at least. Our Indonesia, Malaysian and Japanese fans here know this very well.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinophobia

    If you are Chinese, think and behave selflessly, considerately, reasonably and above all else, with diginity, honour and integrity. If you are non-CHN, show us what love is.

    I don't think US will collapse or decline in the near future. On the contrary, its best days are ahead.

    Here's a thought. December 21, 2012 is fast approaching. We still have time to kiss and make up.

    a) In this forum,let reason prevail (my post only refer to this forum). In the world at large, if we only talk money and power,not reason, well, you know the consequences - history is replete with examples;

    b) The opposite of sinophobia is sinophilia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinophilia - let there be many more sinophiles (I'm one of them), all reciprocating goodwill towards each other for world peace and harmony;

    c) No matter who we are, think and behave selflessly, considerately, reasonably and above all , with dignity, honour and integrity.Show each other what love is. - I rephrased and amended what you said, using your own words.

    d) I am talking about the American Empire and quoted Johan Galtung who predicts "The Fall of the US Empire" in which he also talked about the survival of the American Republic, USA, which to him is a good thing, just like Britain today after the collapse of the British Empire. Whether her best days are ahead or not, you might like to,for example, read Jim Rogers, the world renowned American investor and co-founder of the Quantum Fund with George Soros. Another American's views, Paul Farrell, might interest you too.
