That is too much la to say that china and korean are better than them. But no matter what if you compare the result i still think LD is better among the back up player
Have you seen any renowned player coming out from the tutelage of that gentlemen that you were chatting to? I am very confident to say there's none. That's understandable considering he will ask his students to eat roti canai instead of encouraging them learn how to deal with disappointment. Nothing good ever come out of his mouth and naturally nothing good come out of his hand or guidance. So, don't have to waste your time.
daren liew past one year performance i can hardly say he is anywhere near good, let alone "top" he cant even make it to the semi finals in any tournament

YONEX-SUNRISE Malaysia Open GP Gold 2012 2012-18 9/16 2720 Matches

Yonex Sunrise India Open 2012 2012-17 17/32 2220 Matches

2012 Yonex Australian Open GP Gold 2012-14 17/32 1670 Matches

Swiss Open 2012 2012-11 5/8 3850 Matches

YONEX All England Open Badminton Championships 2012 2012-10 5/8 6050 Matches

Badminton Asia 2012 Thomas & Uber Cup preliminaries 2012-7 x 3296.835 Matches

MAYBANK Malaysia Open Presented by PROTON 2012-2 17/32 2220 Matches

Victor Korea Open 2012 2012-1 33/64 1060 Matches

2011 HWASUN VICTOR Korea Grand Prix Gold 2011-49 5/8 3850 Matches

Kumpoo Macau Open 2011-48 33/64 660 Matches

Li Ning China Open 2011 2011-47 65/128 0 Matches

Yonex Badminton French Open 2011 2011-43 9/16 3600 Matches

Yonex Denmark Open 2011-42 33/64 1060 Matches

Indonesia Open 2011-39 17/32 1670 Matches

Li NING China Masters 2011-37 17/32 2220 Matches

Yonex Chinese Taipei Open 2011-36 9/16 2720 Matches

Yonex Sunrise Vietnam Grand Prix Open 2011 2011-34 5/8 2750 Matches

Indonesia Open Superseries Premier 2011 2011-25 17/32 2660 Matches

Singapore Open 2011 2011-24 17/32 2220 Matches

SCG Thailand Open Grand Prix Gold 2011 2011-23 33/64 660 Matches

Nice statistics. Time is running out because China (Chen Long, Wang, Du), Japan (Tago, Ueda) and Korea (that guy that beat lcw) is waiting and roaring. Don't waste time. He may just get 1 or 2 SS in his live if he is lucky. I don't think he reads this forum tho. If he reads this. Bangun la kawan; jam 4am boleh?
well certainly, there is another big problem of BAM, that is, keep on sendiong players to tournaments they arent fit for. its clear to me that Daren Liew is not at the level, and participating in SSP and SS wont let him win any tournaments, well u can see whats the impact to a player: "i go in a tournament, my goal is to reach... place" cmon, unless a player think he can win a tournament, or else he cant win. Daren Liew should get more GPG GP and IC tournaments to seriously boost his morale and let him understand his status, not gaining some good points in SS and really not improving at all
I hope for him to be more aggresive in his game. He has too much respect for some players. He should be in his peak now.
guy, what happen to his hand??, i think he got pain on his wrist. he always looking at his hand during match with lin dan and jan ogensen.
i thnk the most important thng is bam must send the youth to more tournaments esp.gpg n gp series.experience wont come just by training in our training centre.the youth need tournaments experience n learn from the best
rashid send them to SS, and that, is just some experience for them to lose. nothing to gain because they are definately a league below the other players. BAM nee to revise their policy. while technique may seems more important, player confidence and world ranking do make a huge lot of difference. at least, you dont have to play through 2 rounds of qualification!
that is why they need to participate more in gpg n gp tournament.play lower level tournament to build confidence?well, base on current performances,it seems like not enough tournament to me

Daren is already a matured person. he should be able to decide for himself. He is considered a top 20 player. So being in SS is ok. Winning is another of course. Same for GP. No guarantee to win. I prefer to play big players to improve myself rather than playing small players. btw, he got to go back to do some basic smash shots. I think the coaches giving him all the tougher ones ignoring those fundamental shots or strokes.
imo, tournament only exposure. but what u did before tournament is more important. to play against china player, what u need is consistency with less error.
i always believe that a world class player and a second rated player have 3 differences: 1: world ranking position 2: physical techniques 3: tournament ablities 1: world ranking maybe impostant for seeding and qualification of main draw. players like arif and even chong wei feng sometimes faced the fact that they need to play extra match in SS or SSP due to poorer position. daren liew however, have enough point for himself to be among the top 30(a bit of flucuation), and that should be enough to be included in the top 28 of participants in SSP game. in this aspect, i think he done well, thanks to his frequent participation in SSP and SS tournaments. 2: techniques, i am not sure how well he is, or rather how well he can be. for him to be so constantly defeated by stronger opponents, we can say that he is not there yet. however one thing i wonder is, maybe, just maybe he dont have the talent. he dont have the talent of players like Chen Long or kenichi togo. 3: tournament ablities, i seriously think this is what he is lacking of. he dont know how to win a tournament. he goes in to a tournament thinking that, "if i get lucky, i can finish last eight." he cant take much stress, cant stand up to stronger opponent, and nobody is placing hope for him defeating the chinese. thats why i simply think that he should change his focus to tournaments like GPG and GP so that he can learn how to handle it better. he can only walk, he cant run yet, so dont expect him to fly
I think he should play about 12-18 tournaments a year. If he still can't make it, then too bad, can't blame anyone. He has all the skills already. It is up to him to learn and own up to go to the next level. Can't blame much on coaches and spoon feed him.
Actually I think Darren's quality is enough for what MAS need at the moment. MAS don't need just one world number 1 player like LCW but many players like Darren Liew who can reach quarter finals of SS tournaments on regular basis. If I was a MAS supporter I want my country to have 2-3 players like Darren Liew so that don't need to rely on just world number 1 player to reach semis/finals in every tournament. If 2-3 players reach quarters of SS tournaments is better than just one player reach semis/finals each time. Having a world number 1 player is a bonus, but if don't have world number 1 status , it is fine too. What MAS need is players like Darren Liew in quantity. Having just one player like LD/LCW/TH/PG can sometimes make a country too dependent on their star player to deliver each time. Look at JPN/KOR. They don't have world number 1 player at their disposal, but they have Tago/Ueda/Sasaki, LHI/SWH/PSH who can all play at the same level and cause upset to players like TH/PG/LD/LCW all the time. If I was neutral fan, I would support JPN/KOR rather than MAS/INA. If you can have both quality and quantity like CHN does, of course it's better. But if you don't have both quality and quantity players at your disposal, it's better to have quantity and 'decent quality' like KOR/JPN does.
