My take is that Lin Dan is just not interested in all these SS stuff. The only reason he takes part is because the new ruling requires him to do so and he has to maintain his seeding to be eligible for London 2012. I suspect his real aim is to win his second gold come London 2012, after which he will retire. Anything else is secondary, with the exception of next year's Thomas cup. Lcw , Taufik , P Gade, Hyun Ill, Bao Chun Lai, Boonsak are likely to retire too after London 2012. The will definitely be a change of guards next year. Lets focus on players like Victor Axellsen, Wang Zheng Ming , Chen Long, Tago, Rambuka ,Wan Soon Ho from now on.
Contrast LD with PG. PG has annouced he's going to retire. Yet he still competes to the best of his ability. It's called class and it's something LD has never really displayed throughout his career.
lin dan definitely will get a lot attention again from media after defeated in today match, he played not at his best or usual way i would say therefore not really believe he can easily outplayed by his opponent, could be sho sasaki played tremendously well then ???
Lin Dan just didn't feel like having to perform his acting sidejob in the next round, likely vs Chen Jin again, so figured since he already lost one of the PSS tournaments and can't win them all in one year anymore why not exit at this stage ... Chen Long will win tomorrow to set up the match against LCW again and test how far he is
Is it because of this? My prayers heard. haha.. Taufik blamed BWF for letting Lin Dan pull out of S’pore final The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Wed, 06/22/2011 9:55 AM A | A | A | Indonesian Olympic badminton champion Taufik Hidayat criticized the Badminton World Federation (BWF) for allowing China’s Lin Dan to pull out of the final at the Singapore Open Super Series last week, thereby conceding victory to countryman Chen Jin. The 2004 Olympic champion suggested the withdrawal was a strategy to improve the ranking of Chen Jin in order to secure a more favorable seeding at the 2012 Olympics. “It was the fault of the BWF. This is not the first time, but has frequently occurred, especially if Chinese players face other Chinese competitors,” Taufik told the Antara news wire after a training session at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium on Monday. The 2005 world champion recalled that in 2008 All England finalist Lin Dan also pulled out before the final against Chen Jin, citing injury. One week later, however, Lin Dan won the Switzerland Open Super Series. “During the [2008] All England, Lin Dan entered the court with his feet bandaged, but in Switzerland one week later he become the champion,” said Taufik. The Indonesian veteran expects that the Badminton World Federation should be aware of such behavior, as it would do harm to the organizers and the spectators who expected to watch a quality competition. Lin Dan was subjected to boos and jeers on Sunday after the sport’s golden boy was forced to withdraw from the Singapore Open final due to illness. Some 7,000 fans who had turned up at the Singapore Indoor Stadium to see “Super Dan” vented their frustration over his withdrawal. The 27-year-old had been due to play countryman Chen Jin in the final, but pulled out after being diagnosed with gastroenteritis by the tournament’s doctor. “I felt very unwell after I went to bed. This morning I still did not feel very well, so I went to the tournament office and consulted the team doctor,” Lin told a news conference. Tournament referee Ernest Robinson confirmed that Lin had pulled out due to gastroenteritis and that Chen Jin had been awarded the title on a walkover. Taufik said that the Indonesia Open Super Series Premier, which opened on Tuesday, would be very competitive because nearly all of the world’s top 32 would take part in the tournament. “It’s time for the Olympic qualification and usually at this time the top players are vying for a better seed at the Olympics. Moreover, it is a Premier Super Series [event],” said Taufik, who put forth a target of nothing short of keeping his rank within the world’s top five. “It is not my time anymore. It’s time for the younger players. I have had a feeling since I played in All England, India and Singapore that I might only try my best to reach the Olympics,” said Taufik, who was defeated by Malaysian Lee Chong Wei during the final last year.
