today's serve judge let me recall Yawen Zhang's 11 fault calls in WC 2006

This is why I think they should just set a maximum service height (e.g. 1.3m or whatever reasonable height) to remove variations. Then, there could be a white tape on the net marking this height. The service judge then sits on a height adjustable chair/stool, so that their eyes are precisely at this level. By comparing the shuttle to the white marks, any serve with the shuttle higher than this mark is called a fault.

If someone has a better idea, then fine. But in any case, BWF needs to do a better job on this. How much controversy do they need before changing the current service rule?

As I have posted earlier in another thread, I re-watched the the CB//GZG Vs MB/CM match many times, esp around the 20 points+, I really think some calls on CB serves were marginal. Looked at Boe served at 23/22, his racquet was struck quite high at serve. It's really disappointed to see how double standard was applied to a game. Is there a way to standardize the calls/eyes of the line judges... :lol

it's not high at all and no complaints from the opposition either ... Let me see if I can get a better freeze but it doesn't move up from this height at all.

That is football and this is badminton which is by far a game yet to be polluted. Please don't compare with soccer.

My point was Boe's hair ain't grey.

And I have nothing against this chinese pair, in fact they are quickly becoming one of my favorite to watch but don't go around grasping for silly excuses. Yes two linecalls were clearly wrong and as Cheung mentioned a lot of times it seems like a senior citizen gathering :p;).
Kinda reminds me of Mak/Tan at the Copenhagen Masters, a few calls agains and they completely lost their heads already. Just give it a few years and it'll all work out ...

I saw the match too, felt it is really unfair for the game as well. I guess this is everywhere, they always say they try to balance the powers, but if they are not good enough, they are not good enough. anyway hope kkk/tbh can win, i guess as a badminton fan, all we want to see is a good and fair game. For those who watch the women's double match earlier, similar things happened, but glad they still make it through real skills and focus.

Fair comments pal especially on the lame excuse they use:- the so called "balance of power" whereby looking at the lists of today's finale, there is only 1 representative from Europe.

Take it with a pinch of salt as there is no perfect organizers. Looking at it from a different perspective, sometimes incidents of this nature would make the game more interesting and debatable.:)

    Sad ...

He's not talking about the service judges but the korean linejudges. Service judges are referees on service judge duty. Just because it was the Korean Open doesn't mean there was a korean service judge, if there is a video who knows it might be the very same service judge ...
As I mentioned before somewhere (during the 2010 world championships I believe) service judge duty looks to me like it is a chore to them and killing time till they can get back up on the chair and occassionaly paying attention. But some high and mighty canadian got his panties in a bunch and started comparing my judgment against the referees and whatnot. I believe by the initials of T.N.

Well all calls went against the danish today and they won?? How on earth is that possible  .

I thought the calls today were quite even. Service faults, bad line calls, etc.

Actually I thought all calls were good just that the danish thought they were bad which in line with the above conspiracy theories should have upset them and make all the difference ;). Were KKK/TBH faulted on serve? Didn't see every second ...

And if what it looks like to me it does feel like a chore to them and only occassionaly pay attention, don't you agree the natural time to do so is at the very least around gamepoint/matchpoint/towards the end of the set ...

[Should be umpire instead of referee]

No comments on this pic about Boe having an illegal serve??

IMHO, this looks a legal height to me.
