http://www.bwfbadminton.org/news_item.aspx?id=39053 VICTOR-BWF Super Series Finals 2010 goes to Chinese Taipei Monday, August 23, 2010 The Badminton World Federation (BWF) is pleased to announce that Chinese Taipei Badminton Association will host the BWF Super Series Finals 2010 while VICTOR will be the title sponsor of the USD500,000 total prize money event. The Finals, to be played on 5-9 January 2011, will feature the top eight ranked players in the Super Series standings in all five events. “We are also pleased to have VICTOR on board as the title sponsor and look forward to a successful VICTOR-BWF Super Series Finals in Chinese Taipei in January,” said BWF Chief Operating Officer Thomas Lund. “We also want to thank Chinese Taipei Badminton Association for hosting the event. They have always been excellent hosts and I am confident they will do a wonderful job in hosting the tournament.” The VICTOR-BWF Super Series Finals is the climax of the 12-leg BWF Super Series circuit. For the past two seasons, the Badminton Association of Malaysia hosted the Final in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah and Johor Bahru, Johor respectively. “The BWF Super Series Finals is growing stronger as a brand and we are proud to play hosts. With so many top players in the event, badminton fans in Taipei are in for some amazing badminton,” said CTBA Secretary-General Tsai Hung-Peng. “CTBA also would like to thank BWF for giving us the opportunity to host the event.” VICTOR Sports General Manager Jeff Chen also expressed his delight to participate as the title sponsor of the event and said that the sponsorship exercise is part of the company’s strategy to promote badminton in Chinese Taipei particularly and the world generally. “It is also an important milestone for VICTOR and hope this will enhance our cooperation with the BWF.”
..the big question will be: Will CBA allow its players to finally compete in this SSMF after missing the last 2 editions????..(knowing well, it's held in Taiwan)..hmmm.. The title of the event is a bit odd (doesn't make sense). It's called the 2010 SSMF yet it's held next yr, in 2011....???..hmmm..
2010 BWF SS Finals: Chinese Taipei Badminton Association to host it . It is great to know that CTBA has taken up the role to host the 3rd BWF SS Finals. Hope that other National Badminton Associations will be encouraged to further support this BWF SS format/event. Before CTBA puts up its hand to host it, I was thinking that BAM could be required to host it the 3rd time. .
Will CBA allow its players to finally compete in this 2010 SSMF event? . Probably not. Probably it will clash with their CHN internal training again. The BWF SSSMF is to be held after all the 2010 SS tournaments are completed. Therefore, it could be held any time between the last 2010 SS event and the first 2011 SS event. .
Maybe can watch one day . Hahaha...... You could watch some more matches; just before you depart to arrive at the airport to catch your flight back to Malaysia. .
..another question which hasn't been addressed in the article: Where, in what city, will they hold this tourney??..Are they going to hold the event at the same venue in the recent Chinese Taipei Open GP Gold?.. *for chris-ccc, do you have any other examples where an event is held on a different year than the actual advertised title?..I'm sure the 2010 Tour de France is held in 2010, not in 2011, no??..same with the 2010 Commonwealth Games in India, it's held this yr, not in 2011, no?..
China did send their players to SSMF..Bao Chun Lai and Xu Chen/Quo Chen dong and Lu Lan ( but did not go at the end) If it is in Taiwan...China is supposed to send their players since the relationship between 2 countries are much better and for some reason..China hardly goes to china...I am wondering why!!
The '3rd BWF SSMF' = The '2010 BWF SSMF' . I see what you mean. Perhaps BWF could simply promote it as the '3rd BWF SSMF', instead of the '2010 BWF SSMF'. .
So there will be 2 SS Masters Finals next year as scheduled in BWF Calendar : 1) BWF Super Series Masters Finals 2010 (05-09 January 2011) 2) Super Series Finals 2011 (14-18 December 2011)
4th BWF SSMF: Has any association/country confirmed to host it? . For the '4th BWF SSMF' (14-18 December 2011), has any association/country confirmed to host it? .
2010 BWF SS Finals: Taipei to host it? . The Chinese Taipei Badminton Association Secretary General, Tsai Hung-Peng, would probably select Taipei to host it. .
- Yeah, that's right. In that case, i think the question should be: Will China players finally compete in this yr's SSMF after missing the last 2 editions?.. - You meant China players hardly go to Taiwant, is it?..maybe because of both countries' political conflict??..
one day is better than nothing last time i had little chit chat with taipei open volunteer, he said SSMF will be hold at the same venue, XinZhuang Stadium actually they have another venue,Taipei Arena, but i think the venue rent fee is to high for them as i remember last time they held Taipei Open in Taipei Arena was Taipei Open 2006,after that always in XinZhuang Stadium..
i just take a look at the super series world ranking, i'm suprised that so many world top players do not enter big 8...esp from CHN.. Kido/Setiawan,TH also
2010 BWF SS Finals: Hope for more World top players to participate . Yes, I am also quite surprised by it too. I would have thought that players participating in SS tournaments are all hoping and looking towards making it into the SS Finals. But when the SS Finals event arrives, they do not show up. .
i think it partly boils down to prestige. the SSF is relatively new and while the prize money is good, nobody seems to care as much about it. esp for China who really tainted the SSF's reputation by mostly no showing last time around.
