I was at Richmond Pro last week and noticed that Richard O (the owner) talking to this Chinese lady who turned out to be Jiang Xuelian who won the recent 2009 US Open WD with Huang Ruilin. Speaking to Richard later, I found out that Jiang will be coaching at RichmondPro and this week at RichmondPro, her pictures and biography were posted on the coaches wall. For those interested in having a world class player as a coach, I would suggest phoning and get your bookings earlier before there is a long wait list.
I would assume so. She ended playing with our Wed group and the difference between her play and our play was night and day :crying::crying: Not sure if her WD partner is also here.
Yes she's moved to Vancouver. She retired, had a baby and is back (kinda) playing again. She partnered Alvin Lau in this year's US Open and finished runner up to Howard Bach and Eva Lee. But her and Huang Ruilin defeated Chen Ying and Grace Peng in three games 14-21, 21-15, 21-11 to take the WD title. It'll be great having her here at RichmondPro as a coach,
This is rather a propos, considering the Hong Kong Open is about to start. That was likely her biggest title and she won it twice, the last time being 10 years ago this month.
i am not qualified to comment on her coaching, as i only had 4 lessons with her. but i know she loves badminton, and she loves her carefree life style here. she is still considering playing for canada in the next olympics, or so she says. but by then, age 32, i think it would be physically very tough.
Lydia, as she is known at RichmondPro, won the WD at the recently concluded Canadian National Championships in Winnipeg. Lydia Jiang/Melody Liang (3/4) beat Alex Bruce/Michelle Li (1) 21-14 21-15
make sure you know mandarin, as she doesnt speak much english and refers to cantonese as no good. wish i speak more mandarin, as i only understand 30% of what she taught.
