Yeah but those..........don't they focus on one point too much and the rest would be blurr? I mean you'd want a good setting at 1.8 at best to keep the body in non-blurr?

    ^^Off topic-What do you mean??..^^

..by "focus on one point too much & the rest would be blurrrr?"..:p..You mean as in background/foreground blur or bokeh??..

The way to keep the body in non-blur (as in not sharp) is to have a fast shutter setting. With the beauty of the above lenses' aperture, depending on the lighting condition, we can lower the ISO and crank up the shutter speed. Those lenses work best with cameras which don't have good & clean high ISO capabilities.

don't know about the other lenses but the repro nikkor is a macro lens with a fixed focus for 1:1 magnification - you can't change the focus so it's useless for general photography. doesn't mean i wouldn't want to play with such a fast lens though :D

What I meant was that the F would be so large that only the point you're focusing on would be sharp but the other points would be blurry. I don't think that is related with fast shutter but rather the way F stop works.

So for example F1.0 Shutter 1/1000 ISO600 in a semi lighted gym, somebody's doing a fadeaway smash because his/her opponent served high, your focus point would be on the face so the arm/racquet is in stop motion kinda clear but the edges are fuzzy because it is F1.0 and the focus was on the face so the other parts are fuzzy which is what large F values do.

I gather most guys here at BC has a leaning towards CANON in general!

But I guess the micro 4/3rds will dominate the mid range; the Pentaxes, Olympuses, Leicas, Panasonics, etc shall be great!

Kwun will be going for a Canon!

    i am actually now leaning towards a P&S. :)

i honestly don't need a new DSLR. my mk3 is sufficient for everything for another 5 years.

however, what i think would be useful is to be able to capture video, the iphone is just not up to par. i am thinking maybe a not too expensive P&S that has a fast lens and can do 720p capture. it will be nice to use it to do the occasional stringing video as well as badminton training video as well. something that can do super slow motion would be nice as well. the model i am looking at is the Canon SD4000IS.

Have you checked out the Fuji HS10/HS11 as a P&S? It records HD 1920, and is versatile enough to allow for maunal focus and zoom from the lens ring. Or maybe the HS20EXR/HS22EXR...

    Olympus XZ-1 :). Bright lens, 28-112mm and a 1/1.6" sensor in a compact body @ sub300g.

    ops. forgotten about this thread.

i ended up getting a Canon SD4000IS. great little P&S camera for light shooting. f/2.0 lens, 240fps videos (awesome for badminton training). very small and light that fits into any pocket.
