I was wondering what become the gooses that our birdies are made of. Chinese eat them alot or what? But still I didn't see any meal with goose. Or are they shaved like a sheep to collect feather so they didnt have to be killed ? Do you have any idea how many shuttlecocks can be made from a goose?
1. French meals contain goose, not just Chinese. Since you are in Paris, go try some French restaurant. 2. You can't shave a goose. Goose needs feather to survive. 3. I would estimate a minimum of 2 tubes of shuttle can be made from a goose. Someone may correct me on this.
I doubt if there is anyone who kills a goose just for the feathers. Or the Frenchmen will kill a goose only for the foie gras?
Chinese love goose, especially roast goose. Hong Kong is quite famous for roast goose. South East Asians buy them in Hong Kong to bring home. I was asked to do this a few times when travelling to Malaysia and Singapore. Almost all the feathers are used for shuttlecocks, the select ones for the higher grades and the ones with thick feathers with thick spines for lower grades.
Well, badminton doesn't kill any geese. They are slaughtered for their meat. The feathers are merely the discards of the fatal proceedings.
You do not see, does not mean they do not exist. Yeah, there's a lot of geese are feed mainly to become meal. Then, the feathers are used for shuttles, or blanket, clothes, etc.
Ok. Just did a google search. It's either duck or goose. But in Hong Kong, everyone calls it goose liver in Cantonese, that's why I thought it's always goose liver.
Roast goose. Yummm.... If everyone were to turn vegetarian, we'd have to play with plastic shuttles. *Shudder*
Can we eat shuttle? At least for safety if kid accidenly eat it... Perhaps feel like chocolate ... But the best is vegetable .. For sure most of kid wont eat it vegetable
I dont think so, our shuttles are made from primary feathers. There are 10 on each wing of most birds. My guess is that we can only use 3 to 5 feathers of each wing the rest are shorter. To top it off the curve of each feather is diffrent on the right and left wing. So my guess (i may be very wrong) is that it takes maybe 3 to 5 birds to make ONE shuttle.
Saw an old thread that might be of interest: http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-25466.html
Are the left wing feathers used for higher end shuttles and right wing feathers used for lower end one? 2 tubes from 3 gooses. So 15 dollars a tube is not that expensive. There are few animals that we can get full use of it - I like eating goose head and feet, my mom likes eating the goose butt, Fench people like eating the liver, and we all badminton players like the feather.
Poor logic, unfortunately. Because neither are humans but I don't think anyone will be happy if I go around killing people for their hair to stuff my pillow with.
