Wish there is live telecast today on supersports. Great men singles line up. Anyway that's how the country is, isn't it? Ticketing disaster and booing crowd. That's more interesting than Singapore Open where everyone is so reserved. I think indonesian crowd are more passionate. Hope to go there to watch it next year with my wife.

This flash thing happens everywhere. It was quite rampant in SO also (though it didn't sound as bad as in IO). No matter how many times the announcer warned the audience, there are idiots who keep using their flash. It's an everyday affair.

The best solution I have seen is what I noticed during the Beijing Olympics. The ushers had a sign that they can hold with one hand. The sign warned against using camera flash in a few languages and was large enough to be seen from 20 feet away. Whenever they noticed a flash, they will show the sign in the general direction because sometimes you don't know who exactly the culprit is. If you know who the culprit is, look him/her in the eye and show the sign.

It’s disgusting to a player to be directed by his country’s sports association to purposely lose to his country’s best player so that that best player has a record of wins. It is match-fixing and should be condemned.
For the winner, obviously that win is tainted. However, a record lasts for all time and there is nothing anyone can do about.
I really feel sorry for Liem Swie King to be directed to lose to Rudy Hartono in the 1976 All-England MS final badminton tournament. LSK was a very good player and a gentleman on court.
Zhou Mi was also directed to lose to Zhang Ning in the 2004 Athens Olympics WS final. She was so disgusted that she packed her bag and left the Chinese team. She joined the Hkg team 2 years later and worked her way back to world #1 ranking and in the process winning the SS and non-SS tournaments including the SS Masters held in KK, Malaysia in December 2008.
It is to be noted that the A-E and Olympics are prestigious titles and a badminton player cannot be considered great without winning one of these. For the Olympics, ZM’s chances of ever capturing the title are gone as age is against her and the event is only held once in 4 years.

So does that mean Rudy was not honest with his win? Was he aware of the title to be given by the King?

HE might win without help... but the opponent is already got orders which make it easier for Rudy to win. Like what you said.. we will never know.. the King has spoken... now waiting for Rudy..

Everyone knows, LSK was only 18 yrsold has beaten Rudy in at least 2 occasions prior to AE and Rudy is on his way down, in semi he struggle to beat Swedish player. He got blister in his foot during the final game again LSK. We all disgusted, LSK was our new star, hero in our state and club and has to give away to Rudy for the sake of record, pew. Now Rudy is a devoted christian, he should be gentlemen enough to acknowledge to LSK's fans and say sorry.

How would I know? :p I just saw a man using flash. No idea who he was, of course. Not a player, for sure. Not ex-governor Sutiyoso also. Hahaha.. so yeah, no idea.

Any chance "Call Me King" has a English version? Swie King was my idol when I was a kid, I think he was the first one to utilize the jump smashes in MS?

I was in Guangzhou for the Sudirman Cup... the loudest noise was from the INA fans there... :p INA is a large country with virtually no noteworthy accomplishments in sports except from badminton... So we throw all our nationalistic fervor [through sports passion] to badminton. :p We have no other choice... Our soccer team is terrible, our volleyball team is terrible, our basketball team is terrible...

China is good at so many sports-disciplines... I understand that the fans can cheer for many other sports in addition to badminton. Not us in INA...
