photos are here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jmpsmash/sets/72157612141817408/ gotta go to sleep. very very tired.
igor?? whoa...he is like in his mid forties about 6'2" to 6'4", must've gotten in good shape recently. very good singles player, not so much double. I been playing with him for like 15years or so...doubles only, cuz there is no way i can challenge him in singles. Man I can't believe he still have the stamina!! Good Job IGOR!!!
Alriiiiiiiiiggghht!!!.. thanks much, kwun, for taking and sharing the pics!!!..I know you wanted to just spend this past weekend resting with your family... *I assume you only went & took Saturday's pics??.. ..alright, thanks for the info; at the end, he won 4 (i didn't count the other 1 because it was a Walkover win) and lost 2, both of which ended in rubber games. Now, from kwun's pics, can you tell us which one is he (if his pics were taken)??.. Btw, any official announcement for this yr's U.S. team??..Final team composition?..
The official team consists of: Tony Gunawan Howard Bach Sattawat Pongnairat Howard Shu Eva Lee Lauren Todt Daphne Ng Lili Zhou
^^Thanks..^^ ..so, can you refresh our memory, Paul: looks like Raju, Bob & Eva are the players not included in this yr's team (from last yr's)? or any others??
Sorry Chris, I don't remember the last team for the Sudirman. Eva is in this year's team, but no Bob or Raju. May didn't make this year's team either.
^^Hmm..^^ ..i was searching for last yr's team, i remember they held a similar tryout @ OCBC last yr, but couldn't find any infos. I remember Daniel Gouw & Chris Hales were also part of last yr's team, but do not recall the rest. Sudirman Cup was 2 yrs ago, and i believe we have a pic of that team...
Well, I guess I'll have to start digging. I'll let you know when I find out. Last year's team was for the Pan Am and Thomas/Uber Cup.
^^Okay..^^ ..oh wait, are you saying the U.S. National team tryout is held every 2 yrs?? And last yr's team was for different events??.. Btw, here's a pic from the 2007 team: Looks like May, Nick, Bob & Eric are the players not included in this yr's team. http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39606&page=4 Btw, is the U.S. Nationals being held at OCBC, this yr?? Will this be an every other yr thingy for OCBC/GGBC??..
There are U.S. Team tryouts every year and it's for whatever events being held that particular year (Sudiman, Thomas/Uber, Pan Ams). It's nice to see some new faces representing the US. The Nationals will be held at OCBC this year. I don't know if it's going to be the norm switching back and forth with GGBC.
I believe this is Igor, http://www.flickr.com/photos/jmpsmash/2333497655/in/set-72157604121846287/ This is kwun's picture from the GGBC/Smash City Interclub Competition earlier this year. See thread here and picture in there also. http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=53034
^^Alright..^^ ..thanks for id-ing..Did you go & watch some of the actions, Fan888??.. Oh, forgot to mention it, but congrats to all the players who've made the team!
Didn't get the chance to watch that many matches, but I will leave my impression based on what I saw. I was most impressed with the Lauren/Daphne WD pair. Beating the # 1 Eva/Mesinee pair twice in 2 days was pretty amazing. Was also impressed how well Daphne played together with Lauren. Hope this pair would stay together for years to come and push both WD pairs to get better. For MD, there was no competition against Tony/Howard. They were just far better than any other MD pair in this tournament. Glad to see this pairing again. As for wildcard and future, I was impressed by this young girl (pics per kwun) http://www.flickr.com/photos/jmpsmash/3166233666/in/set-72157612141817408/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/jmpsmash/3166233320/in/set-72157612141817408/ I think her name is Iris Wang. I guess she must be 11 or 12 year old. She didn't win many matches against older and bigger opponents. I thought she played very well and had a lot of potential. A future star
