So Pia Zebadiah will face promoted player from qualifying at first round due to WMC withdrawal.

I suspect Taufik's withdrawal is due to the fact that he might not be part of Pelatnas anymore as he openly criticized Mulyo's expulsion from the new coaching setup.

Mulyo's expulsion from the new PBSI coaching setup

For those who are wondering what is happening to Taufik and PBSI, here is the link:

"From our evaluation, we consider Mulyo as having failed to discipline Taufik in terms of the training schedule. For instance, Taufik missed our physical tests in the last four years," he (Lius Pongoh, PBSI athlete development head) said, adding the excuses given were overused.

    That's a pretty hard-hitting statement!

It's true that Taufik Hidayat has missed his physicals.
But is it fair to lay the blame entirely on Mulyo Handoyo?

After all, does Taufik listen to anyone at all?

Well, this is not the first time this has happened.
Here's what happened in 2001, when he was just 19 ;)

Then too, Mulyo Handoyo had been replaced without warning.

    -------------

"I don't know what to do as I have lost the motivation to join the training sessions. I don't want to start the training sessions halfhearted," he told reporters after training at the Indonesian Badminton Center in Cipayung, East Jakarta.

"Besides, I am still disappointed with PBSI officials who did not inform me of Mas Mulyo's termination."

Taufik said he could not adjust to Agus's training program but declined to elaborate.

    -------------

Well, Taufik was World No. 3 back then.
It's a totally different scenario now.

Let's see who blinks first - Taufik or the PBSI

bascially TH is demanding his own personal coach on top of pbsi's coaching staff. Given the low budget these days, i doubt pbsi would give in this time. TH likes Mulyo because mulyo is too easy on TH but this sets a bad example for the rest of team when TH get special treatment or exemption while rest of the rest have to sweat it out.

    Well..

..that's Taufik's excuse. Although, one has to wonder, has he won any major titles, since the 2006 AG & last yr's SEA Games MS title, with Mulyo onboard? And as far as i remember, the last time Taufik reached the Finals round (not too long ago), it was Hariawan who was sitting behind him..not Mulyo.;)
..in one sense, the blame shouldn't be entirely on Mulyo. But considering they(PBSI) are paying Mulyo's salary, they should at least demand some kind of accountability from Mulyo.
Or, it probably is not the **REAL** reason, but rather could be their way of saying "We don't have enough budget, so, we decided to let you go"....and instead gave the above as the reason for Mulyo's termination.
...what's the excuse for Taufik? He can probably help to offer pay for Mulyo's salary, IF he really wants to stay on the team and competes. Besides, y'all probably can guess how much $$$ he has..;)

But then again, i won't be surprised if he shows up for this yr's All England SS..;)

that plus 09 AE worth more to TH than to pbsi so more reason for pbsi to hold out.

PBSI won't blink. TH is still welcome to join Pelatnas-Mulyo, whether he wants to or not is entirely up to him.

Taufik could participate in the 2009 Malaysia Open SS without PBSI, couldn't he?

He should be able to supply funds for both Mulyo and himself. Perhaps, the real reason for Taufik to withdraw from this SS is because he hasn't fully recovered from his injury.

Who is paying for the US$250 fine for the late withdrawal?

    .
Yeah ... The US$250 fine. Who is paying for it, the player or the National Association?

I think the players themselves pay it, right? Because it is imposed on the players??
