Hi folks, I'm not a stringer, but considering buying a reel instead of individual packets as it's more cost effective. Is there any good way of measuring out 10m segments that I can pass to my stringer? I don't suppose there are markings at each 10m intervals? And is there any disadvantages of cutting them to size in advance as oppose to leaving them on the reel? Cheers!
Why would you want to cut them in advance? I suppose you don't know the exact length your stringer needs. Maybe he only needs 9m...
Unless your stringer is very untrustworthy, just hand him the reel along with your racket. Aso, depending on how their machine is set up they may be able to use less than 10 m - a single set leaves me with a lot of scrap, personally - which means you'll get an extra racket or two out of your reel. (And if you use one-piece stringing, you'll get even more - I can get 23/24 rackets out of a reel these days.)
Unfortunately, I don't have that level of trust with my stringer. He could sneak in a couple string jobs for other racquets and I'd be none the wiser.
Keep track of how many string jobs you have gotten from him, from the same feel. Should be at least 20 maybe 21-22 depending how he measures.
One-piece helps, but my WISE is very close to the turntable, and I've got it down to 5.5 armspans for a racket. I get nearly a metre of scrap from a set, which is very wasteful...
True that. The waste I get as leftovers from a set is also bothering me. Makes a lot of sense (and saves money...) to optimize that when using reels. And I can imagine it adds a bit of thrill too as you're getting closer and closer to the limit...
No such thrill for me, I'm afraid - stick a white label on your reel and add keep a tally every time you take a set from it.
