Agree, please start the thread so that an in-depth take on the issue can be discuss at length w/o piggying back to whether there was cheating or not!
Funny and ironically the discussion is regarding a featherlight (pardon the pun) shuttle! Could have been discussing about Zheng Bo's substantial BMI!
as the thread starter i agree to start a new thread to discuss this 'manipulating shuttle' on more technical rather than emotional issues...is there any technical badminton expert here?
http://www.badmintoncentral.com/for...ai-cheating-Chen-Hong-got-red-handed-cheating!!! interestting read with different actors but similar story board. Apparently my opinion is not very new in BC
Well I don't really understand your aggressiveness but nevermind. I will conclude my previous post as i didn't have time this morning. I understand that you do not believe me for my first point (the only one who i did'nt have an evidence) but all what i intended to say is that for me: - The fact that TH looked concerned about the shuttle since the first game - the fact that he complained two times during the match - The fact that the umpire asked Chen Jin to see the shuttle - the fact that the commentators immediatly spoke about the shuttle when Taufik complained - the fact that the commentators who were professional players explained that some players used to manipulate the shuttle in order to slow it. proves that there was something going in the court , like the commentators said in WC 2009 (see vids posted). The fact is that we will never know what it was. For me there are 3 options: - Chen jin used his experience to slow the shuttle a little bit like the commentators explained - Chen jin played a mind game with taufik. (who knows what is the relation between the two?) - Taufik imagine everything because he was looking a reason for the ultra dominance of Chen jin With all I've read and see, I have my idea. I would says that is a mix of the three. But that's my opinion. The only thing for sure is that Chen jin was the better player on the court on sunday and that i'm happy with his win.
well the best is to get taufik to explain more about his complains so that the world and the umpire will notice it in the future. It's history. Lets move forward. And also get CJ to explain on his side. Am sure the media would like to have a piece of this since this is a hot topic. They will be a hero. Oh, theres a way to counter slow shuttles, just brush the shuttle thro your sweat. It should speed it up.
post #404: i agree(!). just like how there are people who can never be brought to reason. apparently (or unfortunately) this type of people are not very new in BC either. post #275: kudos to you. 1 for freezing time yet still manage to keep the 'discussion' consistently alive in this thread, and 2 for doing a good job at agreeing to disagree, since contributing considerably in the 404 posts you still didn't change our opinions and you most definitely haven't doubted yours. Cheers
''cheating'' is a very strong word , it is more of an un-sportsmanship if Che Jin have manipulated the shuttle which after reading all the posts and watching the videos , I am still unsure if he had done anything with the shuttle , it could all be a mind-game
You were lucky you didn't step on someone's toes I don't think there won't be any emotional issues...one will definitely have to give some names as an example or reference. As for experts, one of them just answered. See below,..at least to me. Ha Ha
exactly, unsure and it could be a mind game or a bad habit as he likes to stroke the feather or another dirty trick manipulating the flight of the shuttle its up to us individually to imagine also a mind game
After that match , it left us with more questions than answers . Either way the title gone to Chen Jin and we cannot change the result , I think the last two sentences from what you wrote summed this all up , '' its up to us individually to imagine also a mind game ''
For followers of Table Tennis, this sort of manipulation of equipment has been going on for decades. 1) One can impart extra spin by spinning the ball before service. Nowadays in TT the ball has to be held in an open palm, and the ball must be clearly visible to the umpire when serving otherwise its fault. 2) Players used speed glue to attach rubber to their bats and used all sorts of rubber surfaces. This enabled Sweden to dominate TT for decades in the 80s. Nowadays rules say that only 2 rubbers can be used, red or black, and no more speed glue,so everyone plays with the same standard equipment. I don't think they call that cheating in TT, in badminton we have the S service, double action serve, service above the waist, moving before the serve etc etc. I think it is just unfair and unethical as someone said, but as a pro one should know all these tricks and know how to deal with them. It does make the game very unpredictable and very psychological and full of "deception". Maybe players exposed to TT will think its sort of OK in badminton, but generally badminton has been more of a "gentleman's game (no sniggering please). In football and basketball we have "professional fouls". It can be a terrible distraction to keep on watching your opponent to make sure you know the speed of the shuttle heading towards you. Blame it on the pros for being too innovative and creative. Now we know why players nowadays always dispute on changing shuttles.
Would you say LCW's opponent cheated during the 3rd set of semis using unfair delaying tactics? How sure that in the 2nd set of final it was not a delaying tactic? Mind games work both ways. We arenot even sure if a new shuttle when manipulated if at all possible has an immediate effect or only takes effect after a few strokes, the pros know all that, so like someone said it takes a thief to catch a thief. So saying someone cheated may be a bit premature. There is more to learn.
why don't you share something with us rather than counting the pages and keep it somewhere near the bull's eye if you know what i mean
