Ayame 03-03-2007, 07:15 PM I'M NOT SUPPOSED TO WEAR SHORTS, BUT THERES SOME KID OF SAYING THAT YOU CAN'T BE A GOOD BADMINTON PLAYER WITH JOGGERS ON OR SOMETHING. IS THAT TRUE? AND DOES WEARING JOGGERS EFFECT YOUR GAME? ANY SUGGESTIONS? :D ALSO, I HAVE REALLY SLIPPERY SHOES, SO DOES ANYONE KNOW A GOOD SHOE BRAND WITH GRIP, OR A BRAND SPECIALLY FOR BADMINTON?:D
TonyWdq 03-03-2007, 09:31 PM doesn't matter what you wear but you'll regret wearing pants and long shirts once ur into a long game. sweat will drown you lol... I'm not expert on shirts, i usually go through 2 tshirts in a long match, worst a shirt a set. I just change often.
i prefer yonex shoes but i can't afford them + other shoes for other sports
typically any court shoes are fine, basketball specialized shoes feels awkward
running shoes are Okay as long as they are not too high off the ground and not too narrow or injurying ankle will occur quite frequently. You want something that has really nice lateral support.

on topic: joggers restrict your movement and will probably cause you to sweat excessively or overheat if you play at a high level. Shorts are preferable. recreational badmin can be played with jeans if your really wanted to.
as for shoes, any court shoes are good, badmin specific - yonex is usually the way to go. Mizuno or wilson are also good.
utopia_imminent 03-03-2007, 10:37 PM track pants are alright. but, a bit of movement is being restricted. plus, i hate the swooshing sound they make when your inner thighs rub together. shorts are better.
shoes. get badminton ones. but, if you can't, then get those running shoes but with a flatter sole like street soccer shoes. or you can get sneakers.
chickenpoodle 03-04-2007, 12:52 AM depending on how cold the courts are, i'd wear track pants over top of my shorts for warm up. and even when the game starts, if i dont' feel warm enough, i'll keep them on. i didn't have an issue with restrictions on movement, except only a very slight resistence around the knees when lunging.
if your pants are fitted properly, and if you're moving properly, your pant surfaces should not be rubbing.
yy_ling 03-04-2007, 07:25 AM lol, caps lock off, you sound angry haha, anyway shorts are best, its gonna cook your legs if you play intense in long pants, and get good shoes that dont slip for safety and ability to play well, avoid wearing your badminton shoes out of play, sand/dust particles trapped in between the grooves will reduce the shoe's grip

lol. my computer was messed up and the keyboard was stuck on capslock.:D
normally i wouldn't bother using capslock.
Ayame 03-04-2007, 07:59 AM Thanks for your advice guys!
J.u.s.t.i.c.e 03-04-2007, 08:21 AM due to the amount of leg movements required in badminton wearing track pants would not only limit ur movement. during long hours of play, it may cause abraison at the groin area. which will hurt a lot if u continue playing. So shorts are highly recommended.
wood_22_chuck 03-04-2007, 01:19 PM Ignore all the advice about using running shoes for badminton. These shoes are not designed with lateral (side-to-side) support as a priority, and have thick cushioning to absorb shock from running. These factors will expose you debilitating ankle sprains and injuries, particularly if you're just starting out in the game.
Get court shoes.

is this because of a religious reason?

Ya, but I would still be able to wear the knee-highs.

knee-highs would be fine. kenneth johansen (or sth like that) wore below knees before.
i know of players wearing shorts as well (international players who have such religious background - sidek brothers)
also, i believe the intention in wearing also matters. if you wear shorts without the intention of making other people lust over you, then i don't see whats wrong with that (no offence though, i respect your religion, its just my opinion)
