View Full Version : badminton shoes recommendations
yuval_ba 06-13-2005, 11:46 AM Is there any badminton shoes buyer guide out there ?
(I could not see any sticky post on this forum)
assuming I am not going to buy badminton shoes but just generic training shoes, what are the guidelines for selecting shoes that will fit badminton well ?
I use N.B training shoes today (CM426) which is quite ok only that it seems it will wear out soon ...
any recommended N.B model for badminton ? (I'm a bit a N.B fan)
Thanks
chickenpoodle 06-17-2005, 11:02 PM flat bottomed for stability.
thin soles for feel, perhaps. but have you remember how good your joints are. thin soles = no cushioning.
good heel support.
rounded off edges on the soles to prevent some instances of rolling (won't be a sure fix, but sure helps).
gum soles for indoor grip.
some materials fit different floor materials better than others.
dont' buy running shoes. their balance for weight distribution is all wrong.
cross trainers should be sufficient.
generic court shoes are fine.
volleyball shoes and badminton specific is probably best.
some say basketball shoes are okay too. i'm quite skeptical.
indoor soccer shoes are fine in my books.
msenghl 06-18-2005, 12:14 AM IMO, I feel that heel support is the most important. Have bad experience before, after 2 hours of game, my heel is sore for 3 to 4 days.
yuval_ba 06-18-2005, 05:17 AM thank for the info
Werus 06-27-2005, 07:23 AM i have a question too....
which brand to buy?
and which model?
looking primarily for gym floors...
sometimes will be playing on rubber (green) floors
msenghl 06-27-2005, 09:15 AM I am wearing Yonex SHB-99. Personally, I believe shoes are the most important equipment, and should purchase the right shoe for the game you are playing. For example, if you are playing basketball, should wear basketball shoe, etc.

I tend to agree with that. the problem is that people are not aware that there are shoes for each purpose and around here I surely can't find Badminton dedicated shoes, I don't think they sell Yonex anywhere in my area.
So I was looking for some general training shoes with the right features.
I went to shoe store that sell N.B and all they knew to tell me, is which has shock abzortion in the front and which both on front and on the heel.
btw - is it recommended to use shoes with shock abzortion ? I saw a N.B 745 model but I have no idea if it is good for badminton ....
Werus 06-27-2005, 01:32 PM do u think ur Yonex 99 shoe is serving u well?
crazy_smasher 06-27-2005, 07:08 PM Yonex SHB series, i think, are the best buys for badminton shoes.
My current shoe SHB99 is very comfortable, bouncy, solid and tacky soles. However, SHB series are expensive but i think it is worth its price especially for its durability. Please do not forget to place a tape on the inner side of the left shoe to protect the foot dragging friction there.
One fundamental difference i think between say, Nike or addidas court shoes and yonex badminton shoes is the softness and comfort.

People here in this forum recommend duct or gaffer tape.
Here, i can hardly find duct tape. For Gaffer tape, i have never been able to find it. Gaffer tape, i hear is expensive also ( it is used for photography).
I tried duct tape, but it leaves too much sticky residue and a bit not flexible enough. So, now i am using insulating tape which is thin, sticky and flexible (i.e does not come off easily), it is also white enough to match my shoe whiteness. Insulating tape width is standard i heard, less than 1 inch, so i need to apply two strips which is a bit inconvenient. I wonder if anyone in other countries can find those with greater width.
To tape it, just stick it on the prone area of the shoe. Yonex SHB shoe has generous leather surface at this area for the sticking.
The good thing with insulating tape is that after the game i just pull it off without much residue.
Hope this helps.
