View Full Version : MP99 CH fake or real?
valkyier 05-08-2005, 12:03 AM Hi, I recently bought a MP99 CH off a friend in M'sia...he insisted that it was real and he claims that he got it off sunrise agent.Anyway, i doubted that it was a real racquet.
Please verify that this is a fake racquet so I can get a refund :p.
1) when I shaked the racquet, i could hear some noises coming out of the handle.
2) the cap is not shiny and smooth.
Somehow i have trouble posting images...can anyone help me ??
valkyier 05-08-2005, 12:08 AM I clicked on manage attachments and chose the file to be uploaded, but somehow, it says the document contains no data...
cheung31 05-08-2005, 12:15 AM weird, maybe posting the serial number and date code for starters?
frankcent 05-08-2005, 12:16 AM the noise experienced doesnt seem right to me. plus, the CH rackets are usually on the merket in china and sunrise is the distributor in singapore. whats the serial number on the racket by the way?
valkyier 05-08-2005, 12:17 AM Serial on the shaft is 3748567.
Serial on the Cone is 260302CH
valkyier 05-08-2005, 12:18 AM One more thing, I dun have a single grommet on the frame...:o
leehsim 05-08-2005, 12:54 AM Serial on the shaft is 3748567.

I have checked in the information of the Muscle Power 99 3748567 260302CH (date=26 Mar (03)2000) to my list of Yonex rackets made in Japan, its serial no. and date code are not legitimate.
Muscle Power 99 was released around March 2002.
In my list, there is an MP99 with serial no. of 3747904 but with date code of 270322SP (date=27 Mar 2002).
IMHO the Muscle Power 99 3748567 260302CH is a fake.
splitstep 05-08-2005, 04:56 AM does it have 2 flat grommet strips at the bottom 2 sides of the frame with red metal marks on each arch?
valkyier 05-08-2005, 05:48 AM does it have 2 flat grommet strips at the bottom 2 sides of the frame with red metal marks on each arch?
nope...my racquet do not have a single gtommet strip on it...
valkyier 05-08-2005, 06:24 AM I found out why I couldn't upload my images...the file size was too big...
Anyway, i got them uploaded but...I dunno how to get them showing in the forums...what's wrong with me...:crying:

FEND. 05-08-2005, 06:58 AM A better picture of cap...and a lousy pic of the frame...hope they tell "the truth"
Font looks dodgy... need pictures of serial and shaft...
splitstep 05-08-2005, 07:10 AM nope...my racquet do not have a single gtommet strip on it...
If the MP99 does not have the grommet strip, i can be 100% sure its a fake. I think your so called friend is not a very good friend + cheats his own friends and also lying to cover it up!
splitstep 05-08-2005, 07:14 AM from the pictures you posted, i can be 110% sure its fake, the red paint on the side of the frame is suppose to be arrow shape and not just flat, also the grommets do not appear to be flat square grommets. The botttom of the cone looks wrong, you can check by looking at the mould quality of the word "JAPAN" the P looks totally bent.
I bet my life on it its fake

The top 3 rackets are real, the bottom one is a fake, notice the diffference in color of the red strip and its shape.
Neosakai 05-08-2005, 05:37 PM leeshim already said the serial is not legitmate... What's still there to determine?
HKChua 05-08-2005, 06:30 PM leeshim already said the serial is not legitmate... What's still there to determine?
Well... nowadays those fake manufacturers can easily come to badmintoncentral.com for geninue serial numbers.
Neosakai 05-08-2005, 07:27 PM Real serial number + fake characteristics = fake racquet
Fake serial number + anything = fake
MP99 was first introduced in 2002, the serial number has it as 2000...
Leeshim said it already, so why still go on about the racquet? It's fake 100% already :)

Fully agreed with your view point, no objection at all.
What I mean to say is that most probably he is only trying to provide another way to detect fake. This racket is certainly a fake, but other owners may browse this forum for hints on how to determine a fake, so... the more ways to compare, the merrier! :)
Agree?
Neosakai 05-08-2005, 08:06 PM Agree.... Idiotcompanies are so stupid... Mp99 without the black grommet strip..
I've seen one at my school too.

I myself was so afraid of fakes that I intentionally bought my Nanospeed 8000 from the local distributor after confirming with Yonex, and paying at a slightly higher price; S$299/-.
I particularly love my NS8000 instead of my NS7000, especially when attacking...
Thanks.
valkyier 05-09-2005, 01:35 AM Thanks for confirming this is a fake...besides, i learned a lot more...thanks everyone...now here's another problem...that friend of mine said that he could exchange this racquet for a YY nano sensation 88 and 99. The "and" means both racquets...I paid this MP99 for RM379...so, for RM379, he could get me 2 YY nano sensations...Im wondering if this is another deal to rip me off...I'll browse other threads on information for YY racquets...

Huh??? :confused::confused::confused:
What nano sensation 88 and 99 are referring to?? I have never hear of any of such models from YONEX. Most probably he is referring to another 2 pcs of the clones.
The Nanospeed 9000 alone will approximately cost S$225, which amounts to approximately RM506/-...
Wonder if you could give more details??
Thanks.

Nano Sensation 88 and 99 are from Yang Yang...not yonex and also, I thought there is no Nanospeed 9000 on the market yet ?? Unless its a fake one.

I agree with frankcent, I think that guy is taking you for a ride. The YY MP99 is currently sold at S$178, which is approximately RM400/-, and it is certainly a genuine piece, SP Version. Call 6253 8858 Mr Soh to confirm.
Thanks.

:D Sorry! My mistake, I am referring to my Nanospeed 8000!
Typo, it is a typo!
Thanks.

Hi valkyier! I think i know who your are. Anyway don't get the YY rackets(both of them cost much less than the price of your mp99), try to get the wilson N-Pro + another pair of shoes from your friend. So when are you coming back to jb? If u want i can go with you to have a look at those rackets!
splitstep 05-09-2005, 02:37 AM get your money back and never deal with your fake friend again!

I recently bought a Musclepower 100 from Malaysia. It was chipping regularly, and it was supposed to be "extra stiff" but it was Flexible.
I called Yonex Canada, and they told me how to tell if any yonex racket is real or fake:
There should be two sets of serial numbers on the racket. Both near the handle. If the serial numbers are printed on, the racket is fake.
If the serial numbers are Engraved, the racket is Genuine. :D
That is how you tell a fake racket from a real one.

Thanks for that. But then again, how do you tell if the serials are engraved ?? I can't tell the difference.

Use your finger to run across the serial number. You'd feel the grooves of the serial number just like mahjong pieces. If you feel a smooth texture over the numbers then it's a fake for sure :D
Jansenkzh 05-14-2005, 09:33 AM It can be curve by machine easily too.... easily avaliable in printing shops....

:D Curving on metal and curving on other materials may be quite different...
Jansenkzh 05-14-2005, 09:44 AM Its similar to certain extend. We as normal people can't judge. :(

not true, my friend recently purchased a fake nanospeed 7000, the serial was engraved, therefore even if the serial is engraved, it can still be fake. Think about it, the fakers are catching on! The serial was actually genuine with the date being correct. The only way to tell was to compare the paint job with the orginal and the weight. The string was also not yonex lol. + from ebay!

OMG:eek:...things are really getting heated up...those fake racquet merchants...toying with our feelings...they make us feel good when we bought a top graded racquet but later to discover that its a fake one...:crying: Wish I got the power to kick their asses!

Are there anymore pictures of the fakes on here, tried searching.
Looking at getting a mp99 at the moment and asking seller for better pictures and serial number etc. just want to be able to compare it . will be getting good pictures of real mp99 before hand as well.
thank you
Djiban 08-01-2005, 11:27 PM definitely fake.

Yes, I agree with splitstep. I have seen a very 'good' fake of NS8000 too. The serial number is engraved too although it is not as deep and as clear as the real one.
I also agree that the serial number can be copied and engraved too, but the paint job and especially the paint quality is usually different.
To valkyier: sorry to hear that you purchased this fake MP99. I think you should try to get your money back.

The eBay is full of fake rackets right now, watch out for MP100, Nano 8000, and Nano 7000 and Armortec 800 .
I have an MP100 from one 'seller' which Yonex Japan say is fake
and an Armortec which is also fake.
Once you compare the 'etched' numbers against a real racket, there is a distinct difference (and the grips feel different too)
